Gorgeous new mural by Casey Kawaguchi at Sakura Square on Pacific Mercantile Co., “The Seeds We Sow”
🔥
Longtime fans of Casey’s will note that he has additional colors than his usual palette, and that rather than a paint brush “weapon”, she’s carrying a bushel of beets.
Casey told us that —
- the use of color is him branching out;
- the beets are a nod to both the area’s history as one of the largest producers of beet sugar (during the World Wars, couldn’t import sugar, so made beets into sugar);
- the beets are also, more importantly, a nod to the role Japanese migrants played in the beet sugar industry, among other industries;
and,
- a celebration of the market it’s on and its contributions to the community

‼️ Incredible art show on Friday Oct 4‼️
Sneak peek of the show — which is the famous traveling art show, created by longtime graffiti legends and . It perfectly illustrates the tension between the graffiti writers and authorities, specifically the MTA in New York City. When the powers that be clean up the graffiti in the subway stations by covering it with plain paint, usually they post a “Wet Paint” sign. Persue pulled these signs and sent them to artists around the world. Each artist made their sign uniquely beautiful and through these collaborations, WET PAINT: A Persue and WaneOne art show, was born!

WET PAINT has brought exhibitions worldwide to art capitals including New York, Philly, Tokyo, Shanghai, Miami, Atlanta, and Winnipeg. Progress report on Denver Walls 2024 artists Dave Persue + Wane One — some of our visiting artists. Persue is a bi-coastal artist, based in New York City. He’s a graphic artist, designer, and muralist – including fine art as his aesthetic evolves. Wane is a world renowned graffiti artist of West Indian descent based in NYC. He’s also a graphic designer, who has done logos for hip-hop artists + collabs with big brands, such as Nike, etc.

Progress report on Denver Walls 2024 artist Kendall Rose Kippley — one of our local artists. Denver-based Kendall got her degree from in painting, where she also studied natural resources, especially geology. Her art depicts abstract, dramatic icescapes; she uses cool, vibrant color palettes to represent melting, calving and shifting glaciers. Her formula comes from the desire to replicate a natural process while infusing it with human emotion and intuition.

Progress report on Denver Walls 2024 artist Michael Roy aka Birdcap — one of our visiting artists. Born in S Mississippi and currently in Memphis, Birdcap was inspired by the street art scene in Seoul, Korea. His work is a product of the south, both a love letter to the region he calls home and a challenge to its problems. Birdcap works in a style equally steeped in Saturday morning cartoons and history paintings.
