We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. We are successful when the youth, families, and communities we work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.

Our young neighbors become budding chefs at Cocina Conmigo, The GrowHaus’ multigenerational cooking program!
While healthy cooking is commonly viewed as daunting and time-consuming, Cocina Conmigo workshops show children and their caregivers that nutritious recipes can be delicious, fun, and simple to make. They can also utilize ingredients typically found in their kitchen or fresh food boxes from The GrowHaus. Hands-on discovery and plenty of taste tests reveal a whole new world of cooking!

The GrowHaus Food Access Team frequently includes squash in our no-cost food boxes this time of year since it’s a hardy winter vegetable full of vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants. Interestingly, winter squash offers higher nutritional value than summer squash, making it an excellent option for nutritious seasonal eating.
Beautiful Butternut and Delicata varieties are reaching nearly 6,000 neighbors every month who participate in our Food Access program!

As the weather gets colder, we are collecting our ingredients for Sauco. 🫐
Sauco is a traditional elderberry syrup that is a natural remedy for the cold, cough, or flu. The elderberry plant has long been used by indigenous communities for its extensive healing properties.
For years, The GrowHaus’ Promotoras have been making Sauco with our neighbors during home visits, spreading their knowledge of this natural food as medicine to build a healthier community.

This year, The GrowHaus will continue building stronger, healthier communities through fresh food access, health and wellness programs, and leadership development. While our mission continues, we are excited to introduce new approaches to community-led food justice, such as a community-choice market, and deepen innovative partnerships. 2024 was a year of celebrating community! Throughout the year, we gathered with our neighbors to celebrate our culture of food and learning, exchanging recipes, and tasting new dishes. We welcomed members of our special monthly membership program, Tambien, to join our neighbors for a day of service and gardening. These memories remind us of the value of community connection and how, together, we are creating a brighter future for Denver. To join us for a day of community action next year, join our monthly giving program, Tambien, today! https://www.thegrowhaus.org/tambien

2024 was a year of exploration! Our Promotora team explored new recipes and flavors during home visits and cooking classes by incorporating new herbs and spices. Children deepened their connection to the natural world by befriending chickens and learning about how these special animals can support the environment. Teens in our Seed2Seed program explored new places and connections with peers and other community organizations.

2024 was a year of community leadership! Our Food Access Associate Managers, Maria Elena and Angelo, were both invited by the Healthy Food for Denver Kid's team to present on The GrowHaus' approach to stewarding nutrition in our food access program. Guadalupe, Associate Manager of Community Outreach, completed a new nutrition course from the American Diabetes Association, and Promotora Apprentice, Tania, completed a SNAP outreach and Civil Rights Training. Next year, we'll build on this work and create a Community Food Access Fellowship program to equip our team with the skills and training to launch community markets. Our team of community leaders continues to make real impact and facilitate opportunities for others to engage in our work, drive change, and build wealth.

Before the new year arrives, we are reflecting on 2024 and sharing some reflections and favorite memories.
To start, 2024 was a year of deepening community partnerships. We continued providing fresh food boxes to our friends at Denver Public Library and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver so our neighbors across Metro Denver have reliable access to fresh food. We also welcomed Tepeyac Community Health Center, Archway Communities, and Early Excellence Preschool program of Denver into our food access program. These partnerships not only allow us to provide nearly 6,000 people with fresh food but also mean we can continue hiring community members and supporting local food businesses to create a more equitable and resilient food system.

Children and their caregivers cook up connection and exciting recipes at Cocina Conmigo, a multigenerational cooking and nutrition workshop that has relaunched this month. To ignite interest in food and nutritious eating, this program introduces healthy spins on classic dishes and utilizes both familiar and new ingredients. Cocina Conmigo fosters discovery and learning for our community members experiencing food insecurity.

I am overjoyed to share that The GrowHaus team exceeded our Colorado Gives Day goal and raised over 82,000 from 245 supporters who believe in the power of community-led food justice.

A heartfelt THANK YOU 💗 to everyone who took action to rally with us to reach this incredible milestone! Our team feels seen and encouraged. We are particularly moved by seeing old friends return to The GrowHaus, and new neighbors join our work. Our work continues, but today, we are taking in this huge embrace by our community of supporters.

For over 100,000 Denver neighbors, the question isn’t ‘what’s on the table’ but whether there’s a meal to share at all. At The GrowHaus, we’re committed to ensuring every table has food that nourishes, heals, and connects.
The GrowHaus’ work challenges systemic causes of food insecurity as teens in our Seed2Seed program develop lifelong leadership skills, promotoras (Community Health Specialists) connect with families through cooking classes, home visits, and SNAP support, and when access to nutrition becomes a uniting shared experience.
Tomorrow is Colorado Gives Day, a time to celebrate community work! Help The GrowHaus reach our goal of fundraising $75,000 and welcoming 300 committed donors (to unlock a challenge fund!) All donations of $250 or more qualify for a 25% Colorado Enterprise Zone tax credit. Make your gift here: https://bit.ly/3UOwgrZ and share this post with your friends and followers to further your impact!
