We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. We are successful when the youth, families, and communities we work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.

With one in ten low-income children in Denver having skipped a meal this year, holiday breaks where students don't have access to school breakfast and lunch can be especially challenging for households experiencing food insecurity. The GrowHaus is working with our partners at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver to help alleviate this gap in food access by bringing Thanksgiving-themed, no-cost food boxes to 270 households across Denver. Loaded with 30 pounds of fall favorites like fresh green beans, carrots, and squash, these fresh food boxes fill an important nutrition gap while children are out of school.

The GrowHaus' backyard gardening program provides fresh, seasonal produce to our neighbors in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea (GES), one of Denver's oldest food-insecure communities. Growing your own fruits and vegetables is about connection with your food, autonomy, and choice.
In one of the most polluted zip codes in the country, we are overcoming decades of industrialization and redlining by planting seeds of food justice that provide nutrition security and become seedlings that help clean the air.
Guadalupe, The GrowHaus’ Associate Manager of Community Outreach, stresses the importance of food grown at home. She says, "Through the gardening program, we learn how to grow our own food free of chemicals and how to take care of the land and ourselves." Gardens bring our neighbors together and illustrate the strength and resilience of our community.
Make a Colorado Gives Day gift of $50 to provide seedlings for one neighbor's backyard garden! https://bit.ly/3UOwgrZ

Embracing Their Voices 🗣
Every summer, emerging teen leaders from our community spend three months with The GrowHaus, developing leadership, teamwork, and life skills, like cooking, in our Seed2Seed program. Many students, such as Natalie, a 2024 participant, exhibit remarkable growth throughout the program. Natalie came into Seed2Seed hesitant to socialize, but as she worked as a team with other participants and began to form connections with her peers, her leadership ability emerged. On the last day of Seed2Seed, Natalie showed us her newfound confidence by sharing her experience in the program in front of a large group. She reflected, "On the graffiti tour, there was a lot of art that I liked, which made me wonder if I could do it someday." Natalie later added, "Throughout the program, I became more comfortable speaking to others." We're honored to be a part of teens' leadership journeys as they embrace their voices and pursue their passions.

The GrowHaus’ Food Access team is facing Denver’s food insecurity crisis head-on. We are leveraging our expertise to activate 26 food access sites across Denver via community partnerships with Denver Public Library, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, Archway Communities, and community health care clinics! Our food access team lives and plays in the communities we serve and brings a deep understanding of community needs and preferences to their work every day. We provide food to our neighbors that we would love to enjoy as well, and create systems that give community members the security of knowing they have reliable access to food. We bring these strengths to our partnerships to create a stronger, more equitable food access network. The GrowHaus invites community members participating in our food access programs to invest in other aspects of their physical and mental health through ongoing classes and home visits.
Our trusted Promotoras (Community Health Specialists) guide year-round workshops centered on nutrition, movement, and mindfulness. Programs for youth help our youngest community members learn about healthy habits and the benefits of being outside. Alongside our neighbors, we build a culture of collaborative learning, explore new flavors and cooking techniques, and cultivate wellness. These programs offer a continuum of learning to meet the unique needs of people of all ages.

Food Education Sparks Leadership Journeys 🍎
At Abejitas, one of The GrowHaus’ youth programs, cooking and gardening workshops are just the beginning of a child’s leadership journey. This program’s interactive activities help develop foundational leadership skills while creating a fun environment for new friendships and connections to form. Parachute play gives children the opportunity to work as a team, and recycling races teach how to be stewards of the environment. By making delicious fruit kabobs, children also learn the importance of caring for themselves and their well-being. With your help, we can continue to grow the leaders who will create a more just Denver. Support leadership journeys today by making your gift to The GrowHaus! https://bit.ly/3UOwgrZ

We are thrilled to be entering our fourth year as a member of Hunger Free Colorado's SNAP PEAS Program (Partners Engaging in Application Services)! During this time, The GrowHaus' team of community leaders has gone through extensive training with Hunger Free Colorado to ensure we are equipped to help our neighbors navigate the complexities of applying for SNAP. This work is essential given that barriers like stigma, fear, and paperwork are leaving only 58% of eligible Coloradans enrolled in benefits, compared to the national average of 75 percent, according to Hunger Free Colorado. Every month, our team is making a dent in this number, and last month we enrolled 20 neighbors in benefits. We are proud to be a trusted community resource for our neighbors.

The GrowHaus is a community-led nonprofit advancing food justice through food access, wellness education, and leadership development.

The GrowHaus' Promotoras (Community Health Specialists) are visiting our neighbors' homes and sharing recipes that celebrate Colorado's fall harvest. We're enjoying acorn squash, cabbage, and beets! A favorite recipe has been stir fried potatoes and carrots with healthy oils like avocado oil and olive oil. With each home visit, our Promotoras foster connections around cooking and building healthy habits.

Stay In Solidarity With Our Most Vulnerable Neighbors
Over the past 15 years, The GrowHaus' community of supporters has shown its commitment for food justice by donating on Colorado Gives Day. With this community’s unwavering support, we have expanded our reach from one zip code to 26 food access sites throughout Metro Denver.

A recent report from DDPHE shows that 15% of our neighbors in Denver say they don't have enough money for food. It is critical that we continue scaling our food access programming and creating sustainable solutions that build community wealth to meet this pressing need. That’s why we have an ambitious goal for 300 people to donate to The GrowHaus on Colorado Gives Day. When we reach this goal, some of our most passionate supporters will contribute an additional $30,000 toward our work advancing food justice! Join The GrowHaus' community of supporters in confronting Denver's food insecurity challenge head-on by making your Colorado Gives Day gift today at this link: https://www.coloradogives.org/donate/thegrowhaus!
Gifts of $250 or more not only bring health and hope but also qualify for a 25% Colorado Enterprise Zone tax credit.

A letter from The GrowHaus' Executive Director, Giselle Diaz Campagna -
With all the think pieces you're likely reading today, reflecting on the election results, I write from my perspective as a Puerto Rican Latina, rooted in my community, both as a member and as a leader who has witnessed the tremendous impact of Latine leadership firsthand. This community's immense accomplishments help shape the fabric of this nation, pushing forward with strength and pride despite knowing all too well what it means to be denigrated and marginalized.

We recently celebrated community members who graduated from The GrowHaus’ outdoor embroidery course. Our neighbors sewed beautiful designs onto napkins, pillowcases, and tortilla holders, but these masterpieces aren’t all they created. They also developed friendships and new healthy habits for stress relief.

At the graduation, one neighbor reflected on how this program introduced her to a love of embroidery, sharing how she kept the sewing materials in her purse and enjoyed working on a project rather than going on her phone.
Congratulations to all the participants for completing the course and building new skills!

Happy Halloween! 🎃
Seeing everyone's festive jack-o-lanterns has really gotten us into the Halloween spirit. But where will all of these pumpkins end up? NPR suggests composting your carved squash or donating it to feed the animals at a local farm. Enjoy the holiday and avoid the ~scary~ environmental effects of sending our waste to the landfill.

We are incredibly proud to share that The GrowHaus was one of 20 organizations in the nation to be awarded the Community Food Projects Competitive Grant sponsored by The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA)!

This multiyear grant will support the launch of our Community Food Access Fellowship—a new program that trains our team members to lead community-run food markets via an onsite 'client choice' market that serves as a live training program for The GrowHaus team.

Yesterday, Denver7 came to The GrowHaus’ food access warehouse to speak to Maria Elena Soterani, The GrowHaus’ Associate Food Access Manager and Giselle Diaz Campagna, Executive Director, to learn more about the program. "The food market pilot and fellowship programs provide our team members with the skills needed to manage and sustain locally-run food markets, ensuring leadership and decision-making power remain in the hands of the community,” said Giselle Diaz Campagna. “We're all going to be able to train on budgets, on where to purchase food, how to purchase food and costs," Soterani explained.
