We offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. We strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning that our goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of our community or others from similar neighborhoods. We are successful when the youth, families, and communities we work with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and each other.

Looking for a delicious snack to enjoy while watching the Superbowl or a movie this weekend? Crunchy Spiced Chickpeas are a must-try.
Simple, flavorful, and nutrient-dense, this superfood snack requires just a few minutes of prep time. Rinse and dry your chickpeas, toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, chili powder, and cumin (or any spices your heart desires), bake at 375° for 50 minutes, and enjoy the crunch!

On Monday, February 3, 2025, immigrant communities and their supporters across the nation will unite in a powerful demonstration of their impact and resilience. By pausing work, school, and shopping for a single day, we send a clear message - immigrants are essential to the fabric of this country.

At our multigenerational Cocina Conmigo home visits, snacktime becomes a journey of hands-on discovery, involvement, and connection! Last week, a child and his grandmother enjoyed making fresh hummus together. Our young neighbor was delighted to smash chickpeas, eager to add the spices, and carefully slice the cucumber.
At Cocina Conmigo (Cook With Me), children play an active role in the cooking process, which helps them embrace new foods and cultivate nutritious eating habits.

The GrowHaus distributes roughly one million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables through our food access programs every year! Fresh produce is nutrient-dense, limits packaging waste, and supports our local farmers and food system.

Today, we express our pride for the emerging leaders who have flourished in our Seed2Seed teen leadership development program and Abejitas, our multigenerational summer program.
Brianna, a past Seed2Seed participant who returned to lead the program as a teen facilitator, said, “This summer, I felt like I was growing as a person by going to new places and having new experiences.”
Through educational cooking workshops, outdoor activities, and field trips to other social justice organizations, our young neighbors learn important life skills, develop confidence, and build community connections.

James Beard Foundation recently announced its 2025 semifinalists, and we are thrilled to see the names of four incredible independent restaurants who joined us at Harvest Week.
Erasmo Casiano and Diego Coconati from Lucina Eatery & Bar, Hosea Rosenberg from Blackbelly and Penelope Wong of Yuan Wonton were selected among fierce competition from around the country, and deservedly so.
Congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment! These chefs are not only trailblazing with the taste and quality of their cuisine but are simultaneously fostering an equitable and sustainable local food system.

Our young neighbors become budding chefs at Cocina Conmigo, The GrowHaus’ multigenerational cooking program!
While healthy cooking is commonly viewed as daunting and time-consuming, Cocina Conmigo workshops show children and their caregivers that nutritious recipes can be delicious, fun, and simple to make. They can also utilize ingredients typically found in their kitchen or fresh food boxes from The GrowHaus. Hands-on discovery and plenty of taste tests reveal a whole new world of cooking!

The GrowHaus Food Access Team frequently includes squash in our no-cost food boxes this time of year since it’s a hardy winter vegetable full of vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants. Interestingly, winter squash offers higher nutritional value than summer squash, making it an excellent option for nutritious seasonal eating.
Beautiful Butternut and Delicata varieties are reaching nearly 6,000 neighbors every month who participate in our Food Access program!

As the weather gets colder, we are collecting our ingredients for Sauco. 🫐
Sauco is a traditional elderberry syrup that is a natural remedy for the cold, cough, or flu. The elderberry plant has long been used by indigenous communities for its extensive healing properties.
For years, The GrowHaus’ Promotoras have been making Sauco with our neighbors during home visits, spreading their knowledge of this natural food as medicine to build a healthier community.

“I felt so at ease and happy to be together and talk to people!” - Rosa, mindfulness program participant To support the overall well-being of our community members, The GrowHaus offers mindfulness workshops, including embroidery classes. These classes help our neighbors relieve stress and foster community connections. With the Surgeon General recently addressing our nation’s loneliness crisis, fostering the positive effects of social connection is more important than ever before. In this touching video, one participant, Rosa, shares how these workshops keep her active and social, and bring her happiness. We look forward to welcoming our neighbors back to the program next month!
