5-HR bottomfishing trips for rockfish/ling cod depart daily at 7:00 AM, with the option to add crabbing. Coho Salmon fishing is open in the summer and fall, call our office for the current dates! Albacore Tuna fishing is available during July-September, as long as the water is nice and warm! Gray whales migrate during the winter/spring, however, Depoe Bay is lucky enough to have what we call "resident" whales that will feed along our coastline throughout the summer time as well. Anytime from March through September is optimal for viewing whales with the best ocean conditions! Give our office a call and we would be happy to get you out and answer any questions you may have! Today was absolutely fantastic out on the calm, beautiful ocean! Our crew had an incredible day, with everyone on board limiting out on some impressive Lingcod, including a few true monsters! 🐟💪

Limits with Lots of Big Lings!

We had a very successful trip Thursday with limits of huge deep water Rock Fish and almost made it there with an excellent grade of Lingcod.

The beauty in the picture is a Yellow Eye Rockfish which was safely decended back home. This fish is nearly a century old and we haven't been able to keep them for over 30 years. They can live over 150 years and we thought we'd never be able to keep them again in our lifetimes. The good word has it that there has been enough of a recovery that we may be able to in the near future. The state of the art hydrostat fish decenders are to thank along with ODFW for their hard work. The decender will release the fish at depths the fish was caught bringing it back to its home water pressure. They are really cool and are easy to use.

The next 10 days look to get rough again and we will let you know when we can get out again. We have some 20+ foot seas coming Tuesday and Thursday so the Stormwatching will be terrific.

FYI: Our harbor restoration got under way last week and is moving along really nicely. We are getting new docks, pilings, and gangways with a phenomenal crew of harborwrights that are very fun to watch. These folks really know what they're doing!

Fishing a Bit Down Yesterday with a Rebound Today

Yesterday's fishing was a little slower than normal with only about half of our limits caught. Today was a great turnaround with mostly limits on a great variety of Rockfish with plenty of Lingcod and Cabezon. Check out the dandy this youngster landed today. It is great to see kids get big fish! Well done there bud!

Crabbing finished up today for the season with a huge haul as it has been for the last month. We have a big swell coming in tonight so we will be back at it starting this Thursday. Great Fishing but Foggy this Morning

Most folks limited or got real close to limits today on a great variety of Rockfish. We got some really nice Copper Rockfish. The Coppers tend to be bigger with a little firmer meat. We also got an unusual number of Tiger Rockfish. This is a Testament of the great work the ODFW does with our Rockfish Managent. The recovery of our Canary Rockfish are a great example.

We have some rain showing up this Tuesday and Wednesday but the ocean and weather forecast looks great Thursday through Sunday. Great Day on the Big Pond

Today was a great day of fishing for all our boats we sent out. After delaying our trips a bit to let the ocean settle a bit more from our 2 day big swell it became a really nice ocean.

A couple of our boats got limits of Rockfish with some really nice Lings and Cabezon in the mix. The other got a little of over 2/3 of his rockfish but traded off with some very respectable Lings and Cabezon. Crabbing has improved from last week to 3 to 5 per person.

With October coming up it has slowed a bit so we will be running trips Thursday thru Monday with an 8am departure. Tommorrow looks really nice but we do have another swell coming in on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday through next Monday appears to be super nice with a really nice ocean.

Great Bite Today but Crabbing Slowed a Bit

Today our 3 boats had a really good rockfish bite with most clients limiting. There were quite a few really nice lingcod and Cabezon that hit the decks also. It appears our Winter Lings have started showing back up with the cooler water temperatures and our winter swell coming back.

We have cancelled our trips tommorrow with a 8 to 9 foot swell expected but will be back Thursday. It appears the swell will be coming back up on Friday so Thursday is the day. As usual this year has held true with the ocean changing a bit with our Fall Equinox.

Today was much better for the Tradewinds fleet with 2 boats limiting on rockfish and 2 others with mixed results. Captain Chris on the Outer Limits was 4 shy of a Lingcod limit as the big Lings are starting to show up for us again.

All boats came in with some really nice Lingcod while the Morning Star even landed a 38 inch Halibut. There were also some giant Black Sea Bass caught. Crabbing remains real solid with 5 to 10 per share.

Terrific Tuesday Fishin’ 7-9-2024 Tradewinds Crew What a fantastic day on the water with Tradewinds! The Kadaho, Outer Limits, Mariner, and Tribute set out for our five-hour fishing adventures this morning, and the catches were nothing short of amazing. Kadaho Sportfishing initially set out in search of salmon, but after discovering they were elusive today, Captain Kaleb made a decision to switch to bottom fishing after discussing it with everyone on board. That’s not an easy decision to make when you’re out on the water and set up for one fishery to switch to another but he made it happen. Anglers were delighted to come home with totes full of fish! Mariner Charters, LLC had a successful day reeling in beautiful rockfish. Captain Dan & Keith always manage to bring in happy anglers! Tribute Charters did an outstanding job yet again, returning with a full boat of fish for all the eager anglers on board, making sure everyone had a memorable and rewarding fishing experience. Outer Limit Charters owned and operated by: Chris Schaffner made a triumphant return to the water, with impressive catches just shy on rockfish. Occasionally, we get the privilege to view Humpback whales in our area and today was one of them. Thanks to Keith and Captain Dan on the Mariner for the awesome footage.
