Shallow river TANKS. Almost didn't go, but it was just to nice to not try. Fished an 🎬 packed 2 hours. New area... No livescope, scouted our own ice, found our own fish...one hole each and that's all it took. Good old fashioned leg work. Scored a 2nd rocky as well. After talking with the DNR..last rockbass seen was 18 years ago in this area. Pretty cool stuff.

Well, it only took almost 50 years on this planet to land my first ever Rocky in Des Moines. To top off this rare treat, I also landed it on the DSM river of all places. I've never seen one here or heard of a real one in these parts. I've caught thousands of giants up north on the home turf, but this was a first here. Pretty cool.

It doesn't happen often, but once in a while the youngest boy will put on a clinic and land more fish than his dad 🤷‍♂️...

Got wind of a taxidermy bill bite this week and decided to hunt some of these absolute giants today. Let's just say it was pretty incredible. You know it's crazy when ya stop measuring gills because they are pretty much 10" and bigger. If I was rich I would have mounted a dozen of these today. Banner pits is on 🔥!

I gave him 2 options. Let's chase a potential state record crappie on his turf, or gamble and try for some walleyes and whites. I think we gambled wisely and we have plenty of warmer days to go for the big slabs.
Playing with the pesky walleyes and whites is fun, but nothing like pulling monster hybrids through a baby hole in the ice! 🔥 🔥. Fun day on the water and hopefully plenty more to follow. Looks like a couple back to back days of summer weather coming so great opportunity for some serious hole hoping for jurassic park SLABS. Fingers crossed one of us can make it happen this season.

Finally found an area on the river with ridiculous waves of eater gills. Hard to get a crappie there were so many at times. Super light bites...and some 1 and done. Can't beat panfish on the river then homemade loose meat sandwiches after.

Well, we set out to find a few fat perch for dinner but didn't expect to absolutely s***k em. Didn't catch a single other species today other than these green walleyes. Probably caught over 80 perch easily with a couple over 12"...Right depth, right color and we were off to the races. Big Creek is heating up kids! 🔥

This is a good example of what Iowa panfish limits should be. 10 crappies is plenty for a person. If you have a fish fry, make your buddies contribute to the pile😂 I would rather have caught a pile of river gills today as a bonus..but only managed a few with 1 keeper. Really sketchy bite all day.

Ice report. Found 3" of the good stuff tonight and on the river at that. Looks like everything should be rolling in the next couple days in many areas. We will be on the first scouting trip for monster gills tomorrow. Hopefully we can get on the spot and seal the deal on some 10"-12" tanker Gills.

Took the day off and got to chase some slabs this morning. Half time show got pretty crazy😉

I don't fish in this heat..but we will set for some flatties when we get a hankering for some belly steaks!. Caught quite a few. Kept 1 for the table.

Happy Father's day to all them dad's keeping those kiddos in line and in the outdoors! This morning we had a heart thumper, lost and donkey at the boat. Hook photo in the comments😬 I'll be switching over for a bit to white bass and cat drift trips the beginning of July also. Great way to stock the freezer or just get some action.

Kicking back pigs is a rare sight on the river. We try to get em back if they are 20" and over. Hopefully one day the DNR will add a length minimum and slot for walleyes and hybrids. I would like to see it also dropped to 4 fish for walleyes and drop the panfish down to 10. We have a good fishery but it could be really awesome if we had some better regs🤷‍♂️

Last minute opening for tomorrow morning/ early afternoon. If you want in, shoot me a message! This would be a walleye/scout trip.

Sometimes they want the knife even though I try to be nice.

UPDATE: FRIDAY IS FULL. I only have tomorrow (Thursday) open now. Spot #1 is loaded. On to spot #2. Im open now all day tomorrow and again Friday morn and early afternoon. Message me if there's any interest.

BC north end was loaded this morning with post spawn fish. Most fish came on whopper ploppers and a handful on tungsten and waxies.

Live from the lake!...It's still fire for eater specs ..Keep an eye out for a possible opening tomorrow if we decide to fish this same lake. Please do not message me looking for couch info. It's becoming extremely terrible. The fish are all over...people just need to put in a little work. I promise, its not that hard. (Note, we are only keeping fish today for a great family who don't have the opportunity to fish alot in the winter)
