Everyone always asks, why is Crab Island called that. I think it is called Crab Island because of all the crabs that used to pass (swim) by and over the sand bar. When I was a deckhand back in the 70,'s we would once in a while take our charter boat and anchor up close to Crab Island. We would swim over and wade with a net and a big cooler and you could catch so many crabs, They would be cruising by, all around you. That's why we old fisherman called it Crab Island.
