Hunting with eagles is a traditional practice in Kyrgyzstan and other parts of Central Asia. This ancient tradition, known as "Berkutchi," has been practiced for centuries by the nomadic peoples of the region, particularly the Kyrgyz and Kazakhs.

Eagle hunting involves training and partnering with specially trained Golden Eagles to hunt small game, primarily foxes, hares, and other small mammals. The tradition of eagle hunting is passed down through generations, with skilled hunters training their eagles from a young age. The eagles used in hunting are typically female, as they are larger and more aggressive than males, making them better suited for capturing larger prey. The process of training an eagle can take several years, and the bond between the hunter and the bird is crucial for successful cooperation.

During a hunting expedition, the eagle is released from its perch and soars above the hunter on the lookout for potential prey. The hunter uses traditional hunting methods, such as horseback riding or traveling on foot, to flush out the game and drive it towards the eagle. Once the prey is within striking distance, the eagle is commanded to attack and capture it using its sharp talons.

Eagle hunting is not only a practical hunting method but also a cultural tradition and a way to showcase the skills and bond between the hunter and the eagle. The practice embodies the nomadic way of life, highlighting the resourcefulness, bravery, and harmony with nature that are essential for survival in the harsh mountainous regions of Central Asia.

Buzkashi is a traditional Central Asian sport that is particularly popular in countries such as Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. The name "Buzkashi" translates to "goat dragging" in Persian, which reflects the origins of the sport.

Buzkashi is often referred to as a "horse-mounted version of polo" but with different rules and objectives. It involves two teams of horse-mounted players competing to secure and control a headless carcass, typically that of a goat or calf. The carcass serves as the object of the game and is known as the "buz" or "kok."

The objective of the game is to grab the carcass and carry it towards a designated scoring area or goal while maneuvering past opposing players who try to sn**ch it away. The players, called "chopendoz" or "buzkashi riders," use their horses to jostle, push, and sometimes wrestle opponents in an attempt to gain control of the carcass. It is a highly physical and competitive sport that requires strength, skillful horsemanship, and endurance.

Buzkashi matches can be intense and chaotic, with multiple riders vying for possession of the carcass at the same time. The game is often played in large open fields or on dusty or muddy terrain, adding an extra challenge for the participants.

Kel-Suu Lake is a stunning alpine lake located in the Naryn Region of Kyrgyzstan. The lake is nestled within the Tian Shan mountain range, near the border with China, it lies between stunning granite peaks at an elevation of around 3,520 meters.

It was originally created by a landslide that blocked the glacial runoff of the Kel-Suu River, and succesfully catching the lake full of water requires careful timing. If arriving in late September, you may find a dry lakebed depending on the snowfall levels during the previous winter.

Due to its location near the Chinese border, a special permit is required to travel in the region. Accessing Kel-Suu Lake can be challenging, as it requires a significant trek or a 4x4 off-road vehicle due to the rugged terrain. Travelers can embark on multi-day hiking or horseback riding adventure to reach the lake, enjoying the stunning landscapes and encountering nomadic communities along the way.
