Motown, which was also known as Hitsville, was a recording company founded by Berry Gordy, Jr., in in 1959. It quickly became one of the most successful Black-owed businesses and one of the most influential independent record company in American history. Today itâs remembered for housing artists like Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5, the Marvelettes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Lionel Richie, The Commodores, Rick James, Teena Marie and so many more!

Meet 16-year-old Erica Trussell! Erica is a young entrepreneur and member of Boys & Girls Club SE Michigan with her own small business named Monique Fabbo.
Erica may only be in 11th grade, but the impact she has had on the city and fashion industry is infinite. We canât wait to see what the future has in store for her!

What We Do
The impact that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had on will never be forgotten. June 23, 1963 remains an important date in Detroit history. It is the date that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered, for the first time, a version of his âI Have a Dreamâ speech that would later be heard during the March on Washington two months later.

In April 2016, the Narrow Way CafĂŠ transformed their church bookstore at the Straight Gate International Church into a cafĂŠ and shop concept called the Narrow Way CafĂŠ and Shop. The purpose was to meet the needs of their congregation and community physically and spiritually. After their congregation fell in love with the concept, they decided to open their shop to the entire community! Now you can visit their shop on the Avenue a Fashion right next to Kuzzoâs Chicken and Waffles.

Pingree works alongside the American auto industry to take their unused brand new car seat and steering wheel leather, pre and post production, and turn it into premiere leather products instead of it going to the landfill. Since 2015, theyâve diverted 12 tons of automotive leather from the landfill.
They are also a worker owned company that creates community rooted wealth by sharing 77% of profits their company makes with the veterans and Detroiters on their team.
