Outside of Detroit, near Ford's World HQ in Dearborn, Henry Ford first started building a museum to house his personal collection of historic Americana in 1928. The Henry Ford Museum opened to the public in 1933.

Dossin Great Lakes Museum first opened in 1949 aboard a wooden schooner that was the last commercial sailing ship on the Lakes. This version closed in 1956 and in 1961 it reopened on the shore of Belle Isle where it stands today.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is tomorrow, Aug 17, for it's 29th year. Classic, sports, and customized cars will cruise along Woodward Ave between Ferndale and Pontiac.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) was first dreamt up in 1995. It wasn't until 2006 that it celebrated its grand opening. The space hosts rotating exhibits so the content is always fresh no matter how many times you visit.

The Belle Isle Art Fair is happening this weekend (8/3–8/4) by the James Scott Memorial Fountain. There will be food trucks, over 100 artists, and a focus on gardens and garden art.

The Charles F Mellish House of Indian Village was built in 1917. This lot's original house was built in 1900 for Emilia Schmeman, but was torn down to make way for this house.

The Michigan Science Center originally opened in Midtown as the Detroit Science Center in 1970. It now houses a 4D theatre, planetarium, and hundreds of hands-on exhibits.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club this weekend is part of the PGA Tour. The course has been around since 1899. The current course layout was designed by Donald Ross. Tickets are still available.

The Detroit Historical Museum opened in 1928 at the top of the Cadillac Book Tower. It moved to its permanent home in 1951 with the Streets of Detroit on the lower level replicating the city in 19th Century.
