This is such a beautiful lighthouse.

Split Rock Lighthouse will be lit TONIGHT (7/26) in honor of its 114th birthday celebration!

I captured this photo a year ago for the last birthday celebration atop of Day Hill. This will always be a favorite moment of mine at the lighthouse. I was lucky enough to have Day Hill all to myself when photographing this image, and a bit of wildfire smoke in the atmosphere made the beam from the lighthouse incredibly prominent and it could easily be seen for miles as it went off into the night over Lake Superior.

Now FINALLY ready for adoption! Meet Lambert! He's a thoroughly charming 2 year old, 64 pound golden retriever who loves to greet you with a toy in his mouth. For people that have owned a Golden Retriever before and talk about how wonderful their dog was, well that is Lambert! He wants nothing more in life then to hang out with his people and get lots of love and attention.

Lambert is fine with other dogs, we do not know how he is around cats and has been around older children. When he arrived in our program he was very thin and had a poor coat. He has gained some needed weight and has been eating a good quality dog food to get his coat back into the silky soft condition that Golden lovers just rave about.

Lambert went to the vets in early August and was found to be heartworm positive. He is all finished with his heartworm treatment. Treatment for heartworm is an expensive and painful treatment where a dog needs to be sedentary for months. It is a chemo like a chemo and done to cure worms in a dogs heart. This is easily prevented in dogs by taking year round heartworm medication. A few months later, Lambert was given the all clear and is now ready to find his forever home.

The Malden Park Observation Area will provide an attractive, safe location, using an existing high elevation in the region, for residents, students and tourists to observe the construction of the .

Observation Area construction is anticipated to begin September 5, 2023, and will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Construction is anticipated to take up to seven weeks to complete.

Construction activities include:
• excavation of the observation area
• foundational work and granular fill (mixed gravel)
• landscaping including mulch and planting trees and shrubs
• installation of furnishings like benches, railings and binoculars.
