The 22nd Annual Discovery Bay Parade of Lights is a wrap! Last night we enjoyed perfect weather and had an amazing community turnout as always - The Discovery Bay Parade of Lights has been voted Discovery Bay's #1 event for the past 21 years!
This year, the parade stepped up outreach, achieving a 400% increase awareness, and purchased new traffic control equipment including new dileanators to make Parade intersection closures more clear and easier to manage.
Those who live along the parade route are the parades greatest advocates...thank you! Several volunteers were stopped last night by young adults who shared the parade is their fondest memory of Discovery Bay.
Whether our traffic control is aided by the Sheriff or by volunteers and traffic dileanators, one concern is the same every year - the drivers who ignore the weeks of signage and outreach, the permitted road closures and the people who work to keep our parade record 100% incident and injury-free, despite detours offered and no wait longer than 15 minutes. The number of offenders remains about the same each year, but the egregious and careless nature of these drivers is different since the pandemic. PLEASE, do not risk the lives of the children, parade participants and spectators by knowingly driving into the oncoming parade.
Applause go out to the spectators and residents along Willow Lake Road whom (parade leader Roger Boaz witnessed) united in a spontaneous effort to assist the parade by lining road with their own chairs to create a spectator-lined guide for the parade. YOU are the best of Discovery Bay.
Our trophy winners are posted but every entry was amazing and we thank you for your community spirit and for sharing something wonderful with us!
Merry Christmas!
