Things to do: stargazing. People still haven’t heard that you can get a Dark Sky Viewing permit to stay after hours and be amazed by our dark skies. Some of the things you should look for during November include the Southern Taurid Meteor Shower peaking November 5-6, the Northern Taurid Meteor Shower peaking 11-12, and the Leonid meteor shower that peaks 17-18. It’s also a great month for planets. Venus continues its brilliant predawn show, rising about four hours before dawn. Saturn is bright in the south while Jupiter rises in the eastern sky. Uranus is at its best for the year, located halfway between Jupiter and the Pleiades. Neptune can be found in the constellation Pisces. Mercury reappears, 5° to the right of a young crescent Moon Nov. 14, for about 10 minutes to spot them. You have another chance on the 27th as it sets an hour after the Sun. (hl)

👎 Other bad choices: dismissing weather advisories! An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect at Lake Mead National Recreation Area until 8 p.m. PST for Saturday, June 11.

🌡 Todays temperatures at Lake Mead and Lake Mohave are to reach up to 107* and 117*, respectively, with wind gusts between 25-30 mph.
