Behold: the Aurora AUSTRALIS!

Last Friday, in an unprecedented event for the area, many cities in the Southern hemisphere enjoyed this incredible phenomenon! The Auroras were seen in New Zealand, Australia Chile and Argentina, after one of the strongest geomagnetic storms in many years hit the Earth.

Auroras are the result of geomagnetic storms that occur when large "clouds" of particles coming from explosions in the Sun's surface, make their way to the Earth's ionosphere and interact with its particles and magnetic field. These interactions release energy that leads to light emission of varying colors.

Astronomers say that the last time such an intense event happened was in 2003.
The aurora forecast looks promising for 2024...hope to see more of this!!
