The prescribed burn in Big Trees State Park has begun. They may move to burning in the evening because of the heat. You can call Amber Sprock at 209-540-6857. She handles communications for the state park and welcomes calls.

Big Trees Village 2024 Prescribed Burn

What’s happening?

California State Parks will be working with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to conduct a prescribed burn at Calaveras Big Trees State Park beginning as early as June 3, 2024. The burn will cover about 157 acres, lasting 3-5 days. Prescribed fires help to prevent forest fires and preserve our beautiful ecosystem.

What to expect

Those in Arnold, Dorrington, Big Trees Village, White Pines, Blue Lake Springs, and Love Creek will likely notice smoke during the burn and for a few days afterwards. You can also expect road closures during this time especially along W. Smith Parkway and the park’s eastern boundary near the lower part of Big Trees Village.

Happy Summer! This season is off to a great start. The pools passed the inspection by Calaveras County with "flying colors" and the new pool equipment is working as expected. We had over 600 visitors over the Holiday weekend and look forward to the coming Summer days.

We want to give a big thanks to the volunteers who worked on Saturday 11th May to help get the Rec Center ready for opening weekend: Jess V., John D., Daniel F., Mary Ann F., Bill W., Kevin, Jessica, Eleanor and Frances B. Bill, Debbie, and Carolyn S., Boyce W., Mark M.
