A strong mama rocking her VBAC! It was a great honor to support a repeat client during her TOLAC (trial of labor after cesarean.)

Tory and Jeremy planned a home birth with us with their first baby. We safely transferred Tory during labor with her first baby and supported her at the hospital over the next few hours. During the labor of her first baby the first provider told her she needed a C-section when there was no medical need for one. Her and her husband fired that OBGYN on the spot and then came in an amazing provider that was very supportive and had great bedside manner! Hours later the decision was ultimately made to go back for a C-section for the safety of baby due to unforeseen circumstances. After her C-section her new OB told her she had a very bony prominence (sacrum) that protruded and restricted her 9lbs 1oz baby from descending into the birth canal.

When Tory became pregnant with her second baby she knew she wanted our support again and planned to give birth in the hospital for her VBAC. When Tory found out she was pregnant with baby number two she immediately started chiropractic care at Family First Chiropractic where she received regular adjustments throughout her pregnancy! Labor with baby number two began spontaneously at 41 weeks and 1 day. Tory’s labor progressed BEAUTIFULLY at home and a few hours in the decision was made to head to the hospital that was a little over 1 hour away. Upon arrival and for the next two to three hours her labor stalled because she felt unsafe! She went from regular contractions every 4-5 minutes lasting 90 seconds to sporadic contractions every 10-15 minutes lasting 30-60 seconds. This was likely due to the fact she was isolated from her support team, including her husband! Additionally, an unsupportive on-call provider told her she was going to need another c-section due to “arrested labor” with her previous baby and due to her “very prominent sacrum and pelvis shape.” We had many discussions about options once the support team was reunited and even talked about leaving that particular hospital to drop-in at another hospital that we regularly support mamas at because their support is unmatched. (If you know, you know! 🫶🏻) About that time shift change happened… her new nurse came on shift and WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR SHE WAS! Complete game changer! Over the next 6 hours we helped Tory into a new labor position every 20-30 minutes!! Her husband, Jeremy, never leaving her side. Then at 1:38am she got her VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) of her 9lbs 13oz baby!!!!

Thank you Tory and Jeremy for allowing us to be part of your birth story again 🫶🏻

It was such a joy to spend time with the birthday girl on her special day! 💕

Two years ago, I had the privilege of supporting her mother during her pregnancy and birth as a primary student midwife. Now, as a licensed midwife, I am honored to support her mother once again through the journey of her sibling’s pregnancy and birth.

Happy birthday, sweet girl, and congratulations on becoming a big sister! You are going to be the best big sister! 🫶🏻

‼️Let’s talk safety of home birth‼️

There is SO much misconception when it comes to the safety of home birth, the training us as midwives have, the many hours spent getting to know a woman and her risk factors, the decisions we have to make when a mama is no longer “low risk”.

Home birth isn’t for everyone, in fact there are some scenarios where it’s completely contraindicated. BUT for those mamas and families who are low risk and desires a home birth there is safety in that, as much safety that can come with laboring and birthing a baby.

Also: IF we are SO concerned of the safety of home birth & well being of families/babies then we should all be committed to working together as a team to provide safe & evidence based care. This includes out of hospital providers working with in hospital providers and vice versa. No matter how a woman chooses to birth her baby she should be loved, supported & cared for without judgement.

Mamas with reluctant husbands/partners…this post is for you🖤

I cannot count how many times we’ve conducted consultations where the mom states that she pretty much had to drag their husband/partner there. They come full of doubt, questions, and fear. There is such a misunderstanding of midwives & home birth, and this misunderstanding sometimes results in partners shutting down the idea of home birth without even hearing the details or facts.

If I’ve ever talked to you about my home birth with Sawyer, you’ll know that my husband was very skeptical of everything. Him finally agreeing to talk with our amazing midwife opened up so many doors for our family. It allowed us to make a truly informed decision that led to not one, but two amazing home births. It also led to my decision to open WWM. This ultimately allowed us to support & serve so many families in the wiregrass and surrounding areas.

Midwife Kendra will also tell you that her husbands “yes” when exploring their birthing options completely changed her life. She welcomed her fourth baby peacefully at home.

Ask either of our husbands about home birth and I’m sure you’ll get an ear full. They have both witnessed how truly life changing this moment is, and how amazing home birth can be.

In saying all of this, if you’re in the least bit considering a home birth we encourage you to book a consultation so that you and your husband/partner can make a truly informed decision on your birthing desires🖤

We’d love to see photos of your husband/partner meeting your baby for the first time. Post in comments!

🌼✨ Thinking about a home birth? Here are some amazing pros to consider! ✨🌼

1. Comfort & Familiarity: Being in your own space allows you to relax and feel more at ease, creating a calming environment for labor and birth.

2. Personalized Care: Home births often involve midwives who take the time to understand your preferences and provide individualized support throughout your pregnancy and birth.

3. Reduced Interventions: Many women experience fewer medical interventions during a home birth, promoting a more natural birthing process.

4. Family Involvement: Home births enable your loved ones to be more present, allowing for a supportive and intimate experience.

5. Control Over Environment: You can set the mood with lighting, music, and the overall atmosphere, making it a truly personal experience.

6. Immediate Bonding: After birth, you can enjoy skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding right away in the comfort of your own home.

7. Lower Risk of Infection: Being at home can reduce exposure to potential hospital-related infections.

8. Empowerment: Many women feel a sense of empowerment and accomplishment from choosing their own birth path and being actively involved in the process.

Remember, every birth is unique! If you’re considering home birth we would love to meet with you and discuss all of your options💖🤰

Remy Collin
9lbs 2oz
23.5 inches

A strong first-time mama who educated and advocated for herself so powerfully!

Tobie transferred her care to us at 36 weeks after a conversation with her OB left her feeling like she had little to no autonomy over her body and her baby. Tobie, a healthy, low-risk mother, wanted to take an expectant management approach for the third stage of labor, rather than active management. This meant she did not want anti-hemorrhagic medication administered after the birth of her baby unless she was hemorrhaging. Tobie took a series of childbirth education classes taught by Mama’s Friend—she was informed, knew her options, and understood her rights to bodily autonomy. This knowledge led her to seek a different provider who would respect her choices.

When labor started, Tobie did an amazing job of ignoring the early stages and reserving her energy for active labor. She even received a chiropractic adjustment during early labor! Once active labor began, her birth team headed to her. She labored throughout the day and into the night, working hard but so well with her body and her baby, effectively utilizing every position we recommended to facilitate her baby into optimal fetal position—even as she grew tired. Late that night, after a few cervical exams determined a bulging bag of water, Tobie decided she wanted her water broken, as she was becoming exhausted and the amniotic fluid was acting as a cushion, preventing Remy from descending. As soon as her water was broken, Remy moved down swiftly, which triggered the urge for Tobie to begin pushing. Tobie powered through the next 2.5 hours of pushing, with love and encouragement from her support team, as she continued to work hard to birth her baby. Then, in the early hours of the following morning, Tobie roared her baby boy earthside!

Immediately after Remy was born, Tobie experienced some blood loss, at which point Pitocin was recommended, and Tobie coherently consented. Due to her long labor and pushing stage (both of which are very normal for a first-time mom), we had already discussed the likelihood of needing to administer Pitocin after birth. Her postpartum hemorrhage was something we were prepared for and efficiently managed at home.

We had many informed consent conversations during labor as Tobie chose to make adjustments to her birth plan. These conversations included cervical exams, artificially rupturing membranes during labor to avoid maternal exhaustion, and administering Pitocin after birth. Tobie made a birth plan with the desire to have limited interventions, but she was not against having interventions. She only wanted to be an active participant in the decision-making process for herself and her baby. She did not want to be forced or coerced into interventions. As a competent adult, she wanted the fundamental right to bodily autonomy.

Each birth story is unique! For every mama that calmly breezes through labor, there is another mama that works hard to give birth, another mama that needs interventions to have a vaginal birth, and another mama that needs interventions, such as a C-section, to keep herself and/or her baby safe! Each mama and baby is special and loved, regardless of their experience. Of course, safety is the top priority, but having an empowered mother and treating her with respect is just as important!

Thank you Tobie and Cam for allowing us to be part of your birth story! 🫶🏻

Such a beautiful, intimate birth experience and family centered postpartum.

After having 3 hospital births Catherine knew she wanted a different birth experience. Her husband strongly supported her decision to plan a home birth. Her 3 older children were born quickly without complication but she wanted a more intimate setting where she knew who her birth team would be. Distance from the hospital and distance from a midwife was a big factor in the decision making process for Catherine and David. They had concerns about not making it to the hospital in time and having their baby unassisted on the way to the hospital or for the midwife to not make it to them in time. We discussed these concerns in depth and decided it would be best for her birth team to drive to her in early labor and remain close by until she was ready for us to enter her birth space.

When labor began Catherine did an amazing job trusting her body and knowing when the right time for us to head to her was. When we arrived we found her lying in her bed, quietly laboring. She was worried she might have called us too soon and asked for a cervical check- she was 8cm! She labored alone with her husband, her constant support, while we quickly prepared her birth tub. Catherine slipped into the warm water and shortly after doing so her water broke! Then came the urge to push. She confidently birthed her baby into the safety and love of their home.

Catherine told me during her prenatals she would love for her baby to be born while her kids were asleep so when they woke they would come downstairs to the surprise of meeting their new sibling. The Lord answered her prayer, early on a cold December morning her 3 older children came downstairs to find their new sibling had been born!

Thank you Catherine and David for allowing us to be part of your birth story 🫶🏻

2024 WWM stats🫶🏻

Out of full transparency we love to share our statistics every year. We hope that any family that is represented by these statistics below know that they are so much more than a number to us. We truly love our families, and are so so grateful that we were invited in to each of these birth spaces.

After time & reflection we are super excited to better serve our 2025 mamas & families.

Here’s a recap of our 2024 statistics.

Number of mamas that entered care with us with “due dates” in 2024: 56

Transfers before labor (prenatal transfers for medical reasons or relocation): 15

Began labor at home: 38
Home births: 33
Transfer during labor: 5
Transfers in labor that resulted in cesarean section: 1
Maternal Postpartum transfer: 2
Baby transfers: 0

Biggest baby: 9lbs 14oz
Smallest baby: 6lbs 1oz

2 of our clients had vaginal breech births in hospital with an amazing Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor. We had the privilege of attending these births and what an amazing thing to witness😍

We served 8 repeat families which is always SUCH an honor to us 🫶🏻

We also supported 8 mamas who experienced 1st trimester miscarriages, and one mama who experienced 2nd trimester loss. These mamas are not lost on us, and we acknowledge their strength & love they have for their babies.

We are so blessed and cannot wait to see what this coming year holds. It’s already gearing up to be a HUGE year as we already have 39 mamas scheduled with us for births in the first half of 2025.

As always, we are so so thankful for Gods blessings, grace & provision while leading us through this calling that He so intentionally put on our hearts🖤

*If you were a clients of ours in 2024 we would love to hear from you in the comments! What’s your favorite part of prenatal care or birth with WWM?*

The most beautiful redemptive story for this sweet family🫶🏻

I met with Marissa and Addison during the pregnancy of their first baby. We met for a consult and discussed all things midwifery care & home birth related. Marissa and Addison ultimately decided to birth their baby at the hospital for this birth & would reconsider home birth in the future. Marissa went on to have a hospital birth. While this birth resulted in a “healthy mama and baby”, Marissa described it as quite traumatic for her and she knew this wasn’t the way she wanted to birth her future babies if possible.

When they became pregnant with their second baby they met with us for another consultation. After many discussions together Marissa and Addison decided to move forward with setting up care with us. Over the next several months we unpacked their first birth together. We talked through past traumas, expectations, how to prepare physically and mentally for this birth & I encouraged Marissa to remember this pregnancy & birth wasn’t her previous one. With much anticipation we awaited labor, and I had such an intuition that this birth was going to be beautiful and redeeming for them!

Labor began on a chilly early November morning. When we arrived to Marissa’s house she was laboring so well with her husband and doula. Over the next few hours Marissa calmly and peacefully followed her body while working through labor. Labor progressed quickly, and after just 5 hours of labor Marissa was holding her sweet boy following the most beautiful earth side transition.

These stories are what makes our “job” so worthwhile! Watching a mama make decisions that ultimately changed her birthing experience and helped her find so much redemption in not just birth, but also in motherhood. I am so honored to know and love this family.

Thank you Marissa and Addison for allowing us to be a part of your birth story🫶🏻
