Anyone remember how happy I was that day posting about Manor House getting a perennial update?(Pic 1) Lesson learned - wait until you know what is in the bed! In this case a lot of poison ivy, fern and oh so many weeds..in less than 2 weeks this is what took over! Fortunately I have a landscaper who will take my call and squeeze me in even when he is booked out until November! Thank you JC Landscaping for the end result! Manor House is looking fine again!

Top 5 Reasons Guests Have Rented Our Airbnb’s (So Far)

We still get questions as to why we opened two Airbnb’s in Downingtown. Even some of our close friends and family have trouble with the concept. The conversations go something like this:

So, I heard you guys bought those two homes at Manor and Pennsylvania Avenues.
“Yes, we purchased them as Airbnb, short term rental properties.”

So, you think people are really going to come to Downingtown and rent them?
“Yes, but it is not like people are just coming to Downingtown, they will be in or near town for various reasons.”

Well, okay, good luck with that…

Here are the Top 5 Reasons Guests have rented from us, so far:

5. Family get togethers: Families have outgrown the space at Mom and Dad’s house, so they put them up at one or both of ours.

4. Sports tournaments: If you have a team of 10, or in one case 18 people in the area for a tournament, when you do the math, it is less expensive to stay at Downingtown Manor than renting hotel rooms.

3. Just to get away with family and friends: Former locals or people looking for a central place to get together, have been a big reason we are so busy.

2. Wedding parties: Mostly Brides and their Bridesmaids book with us to stay at both places. We have met and are meeting with Brides and their families ahead of time to scout the locations for pictures.

1. Thank you Longwood Gardens! Does not seem local, but guests do not seem to mind. We were even told of a Marriage Proposal that occurred during a stay.

Some of you may remember my "Apology Letter" post from a couple of weeks ago. Thank you for all of the kind comments and feedback. It was great reading through your comments and seeing how proud all of you are of our great town as well, further confirming our family’s love for Downingtown! I wanted to share two of our Five Generation photos - Downingtown Area School District classes of (1939, 1959, 1978, 2004, 2009, 2031 & 2032). My wife Michele and I hope that by investing in Downingtown through our Airbnb properties, our family will establish even deeper roots over the years, making it 10, 20, or even more generations to be Downingtown students! My Apology Letter to Downingtown –

I have lived in Downingtown for the past 62 years, and one of five generations to attend Downingtown Area School District. After all my years living here, I have a confession. Downingtown, I have taken you for granted. While I have always been proud to say that I was from Downingtown, over the years I had forgotten all that you have to offer.

One month ago, my wife Michele and I opened two Airbnb short term vacation rentals in the heart of Downingtown. In this short time, we have over 180 nights booked, which will bring over 200 people to visit and stay in our great town. We are proud to make local restaurant and attraction recommendations for all of our guests when they come to stay. It is a great pleasure to see they have taken us up on our suggestions, when we see local pizza boxes in the recycling bins and the restaurant menus left behind from our favorite places. These discoveries, coupled with the generous comments and reviews on what a great town we live in, have become a sense of pride that Michele and I genuinely look forward to after a guest departs.

Our guests have visited, or are scheduled to visit from Australia, UK, Italy, Germany, Wisconsin, Maine, Florida, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, just to name a few. They are visiting Downingtown for weddings, hockey games, soccer & disc golf tournaments, reunions, holidays and many more occasions, or to just Get Away.

So, thank you Downingtown, your residents, restaurants, shops, parks, walking trails, venues, and everything else that surrounds our town. It may have taken over 62 years, but I appreciate you more than I could ever imagine.

HUGE shout out to Froio's Lawn & Landscape!! Didn't quite think about a snow/salt contract and with our first fully booked weekend, naturally a March snowstorm hits!!! Froio's responded to me within minutes and are taking care of both properties...Gigantic Relief...understatement!
