Very cool to see this in the news today. Congratulations Russ ! They couldn’t have chose a better person to induct into the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame. Russ has helped out just about every fisherman I know.

Itasca County guide Jeff Sundin is also among the 2023 inductees.

Mondays don’t suck when you are on the ice. We wanted to get out before the storm to see if the fish were hungry. They weren’t very active tonight and wanted a slow presentation.

Ice conditions are improving and the fish still appear to be scattered around. The last couple days we have caught walleye as shallow as 8’ and as deep as 33’.

Be careful around the pressure ridges that are forming. We have found very thin ice on the edges of a couple.

Grilled salmon for dinner tonight. Sea salt, coarse ground pepper, and dark brown sugar with the grill set at 250 degrees. Takes less than an hour to make delicious salmon every time.

Tony is 70 years old and had never been fishing before today. He sure made his first trip one to remember. We caught a limit of lakers and 2 bonus kings.

We had a beautiful trip today out of McQuade. It was a great honor to host a WW2 Veteran on the boat. Lester has been fishing Lake Superior his whole life and he told us stories about how they used to fish lakers back in the day.

The water column is setting up with a nice thermocline. We caught fish on riggers, dipsys and copper rods.

Light tackle, heavy fish!

Captain Chris and his friends Travis and Travis got into some respectable lakers the last few days.

Chris landed this 40.5” laker on a medium action walleye rod while jigging a Musky Mike Fly made by Mike Lunde.

The fish was released clean to fight another day. The estimated weight with a 26” girth is 33 to 35 pounds.

We will have video footage of the catch coming soon.
