We support better commuting infrastructure ( 🚲️ cycling, 🚶🏼‍♂️ pedestrian,
🚴🏻‍♀️ 🚵🏻 recreation) in Durango and the surrounding area. Bike Durango is a terrific newer non-profit that just became a 501(c)3 entity - meaning your donations are now tax-deductible!

Durango Valley View supports better cycling infrastructure and we recently joined as a member of Bike Durango. At the very least, sign up for their newsletter for the latest news and topics about town. They put out a great zine, too! (love live zines!)

We are thankful for being with our family and friends today. It's gonna be a great day and we are asking that before you shop Amazon or other big box stores to please consider shopping and supporting local businesses. Durango has great local retail stores, artists and services. ⁠Most of our area businesses have e-commerce storefronts so Cyber Monday is also an option for those that can't make it to the physical location.⁠

Durango Valley View has last-minute availability Thanksgiving week for anyone needing a place to host their small family or just want to get away for a much-needed break. Or if you are passing through and need a couple days to take a break before the final push home, we can be your basecamp.

A winter storm is supposed to move in and dump up to two feet in the mountains but Durango and the Animas Valley may see only a few inches.

Purgatory Resort is open for winter sports 20 minutes north of us and Durango Hot Springs is a one-minute / .5mile drive down the road.

It feels like a Rupert's kind of day. Winter is knocking on the door and it's time to put on that winter layer of goodness! Congrats to Rupert's for winning Best Breakfast in the Best of Durango 2024.

The La Platas are changing with the season as seen from near Hillcrest Golf Club . We received a nice amount of rain over the last few days around Durango and Hermosa but above 9,000 feet or so it was all snow.

This coming weekend is the annual balloon rally and balloon glow. It's a beautiful sight to see! Durango Valley View has availability through the end of 2024 at the moment. If you're considering coming to Durango, this is a great way to kick off your stay!

This super fun loop is approximately 7 miles of bike optimized beginner/intermediate trail with fantastic views of Silverton and the surrounding San Juan Mountains. Durango Valley View recently upgraded the main floor bedroom from a queen bed to a King! Featuring a Thuma platform bed and semi-firm king mattress, this bedroom is spacious and cozy at the same time with direct access to the back patio. Our home comfortably sleeps 6 with use of the sofa sleeper in the upstairs bonus room.

The fall colors are arriving and so should you. Come visit Durango for the week or weekend. See you soon!

What to do on a wet and moody Tuesday? Get some treats and take a drive. We stopped at Still Life Coffee and then checked out Mountain Dough Baking for some treats (Pumpkin Churro doughnut, almond sugar cookie). We did a short loop and stopped at Meadow Market up at Edgemont before heading home to Durango Valley View just in time for the rain to let up.

Even on gloomy, wet days our experienced yard crew gets the job done. We have our local human team clean up the loose ends. Maybe they'll be wrapped up by the time we get back from our coffee run to .

We love our turkey crew and have seen them many times so far this season.

After our bike adventure at Phil's World, it looks like a soak at Durango Hot Springs might be in order. We're already sore from doing yard work and keeping Durango Valley View in tip-top shape and super clean so we might as well go mountain biking, too!

We're only a 1/2 mile from the hot springs and we prefer the evenings watching the sun cast beautiful shadows on the red cliffs of the Animas valley.

Labor Day is a celebration of all the hard work that keeps America moving forward. If you ride the Durango and Silverton railroad be sure to check out the museum and working railyard. There's a bunch of hard-working folks keeping the steam engines and rolling stock in great condition.

Need a last-minute Labor Day getaway? We have an available slot --> Saturday check-in with Monday check out. Long enough time to get some hikes, rides and relaxation in and around Durango.

The Bar D Chuck Wagon is a Durango old-timer that is launching it's 55th season soon. Located on the east side of the Animas Valley basically 2 miles away as the magpie flies from Durango Valley View, this family-friendly chuck wagon will feed you while watching a live western musical show. A couple of weekends ago the @dsngrr ran their last coal-fired train to Cascade Canyon. All of their engines will be oil-fired from now on. It's a bittersweet moment in history - the look and smell of the train (and town) will change but it allows the railroad to continue its operations without presenting a fire danger. Oil-fired steam engines work the same way as coal-fired trains. There's still the steam and the flue exhaust from the smokestack but the color and smell will be different.
