At Colorado Highland Helicopters, we train where it matters most – in rugged, unpredictable terrain. Why? Because the real world isn’t flat, smooth, or forgiving, and neither are the situations you’ll face as a helicopter pilot.
Flying in the mountains teaches you how to handle rapidly changing conditions, high altitudes, and challenging landings. It’s not easy, and it’s not supposed to be. But mastering these skills here means you’ll be ready to fly anywhere.

In the rare event of an engine failure, knowing how to perform an autorotation can be a lifesaver. This is the helicopter equivalent of a glide in a fixed-wing aircraft. To execute it properly, you'll need to reduce the collective to maintain rotor RPM and use the cyclic to control your descent. Keep your eyes on your landing spot and maintain situational awareness. Autorotations require practice, so make sure to build confidence with regular emergency drills! 🚁🌍
