Smaller run with all the rain and mud but we sold the heck out of what was brought to town.

Cows and bulls were higher again this week.

Calves and yearlings looked fully steady on the front end and cheaper on some of the plainer cattle.

Had a great run of cattle this week. Right at 1500 total. The calf market was stronger than anticipated with the havoc that’s been taking place on the CME cattle futures this week.

Cows and bulls steady to higher again.

Had several nice strings of weaned cattle for the special that really sold well and highlighted the fundamentals of the current cattle market.

If we can be of any assistance buying or selling cattle for you we would love to earn your business.

Canada will impose tariffs Tuesday on U.S. poultry and pork with beef to follow shortly in response to President Trump’s imposition of 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico.
Mexico’s government said similar retaliation was imminent. China, which was hit by Trump with 10% tariffs, promised “necessary countermeasures” plus legal action at the World Trade Organization.
The list of products from the United States subject to 25% tariffs in Canada starting Tuesday included chicken, turkey and other commercial poultry species across scores of product categories, with U.S. pork and beef targeted in a second tranche of tariffs soon to be announced.
Trump, who slapped tariffs on steel and aluminum from trading partners and allies and massive tariffs on Chinese goods during his first term, coupled the measures against Mexico and Canada with a demand for both governments to prevent drug trafficking and illegal immigration into the U.S. Canada asserted that “less than 1%” of both fentanyl and illegal crossings come across the world’s longest undefended border.
Trump’s executive order on Saturday said that retaliation by the targeted countries would be responded to with hikes in the U.S. tariffs. “Exporters should be braced for retaliation,” Washington-based trade economist Christine McDaniel told Meatingplace.
Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.), ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, cited estimates that the U.S. agriculture sector lost $27 billion in exports over Trump’s first-term trade scuffle with China. “No one wins in a trade war,” she said. “When American farmers face the inevitable retaliatory tariffs from our trading partners, their profits take a hit. This action is especially questionable since President Trump’s previous administration negotiated our last trade agreement – USMCA – with Canada and Mexico.”
2024 U.S. pork exports are estimated at $871 million to Canada and a record $2.55 billion to Mexico, where meat demand has been surging. The two neighbors buy about 40% of U.S. pork exports. The Reuters news agency, citing two unnamed sources with knowledge of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s intentions, said that U.S. pork was in her crosshairs, given Trump’s strong political support from pork-producing states. “U.S. pork producers worked hard to build and maintain the current, mutually beneficial trading relationships with Mexico and Canada,” the National Pork Producers Council said last month.
Mexico hiked tariffs as high as 20% on U.S. pork after Trump’s previous metal tariffs, lifted only after the two sides struck a deal in 2019, with a one-year loss of more than $1.13 billion. “Although tariffs are paid by the importer, the cost is shared across the industry, in the form of lower prices — lower prices for all U.S. ham and picnic production in the Mexico example — and in reduced export volume and value as trade slows due to the added costs,” U.S. Meat Export Federation Vice President Erin Borror told Meatingplace. “Lost market share is lasting, as Mexico has worked to diversify its suppliers and that trend continues
