WINTER PROJECTS
It is so warm this week, but winter is not over. You might need boat projects to keep you busy while waiting for spring. Here are a couple of ideas:
FIRST AID KIT: Yes, you should have one! You could order one from Amazon, but what is the fun in that. I use a water tight case to insure the band aids don’t get wet before I need them. Evergreen cases make some great ones. A few items recommended for your kit…

Antiseptic cream

Seasick medication 🤢
Aspirin or pain relievers 💊

NOW IS THE TIME TO CHECK ON YOUR BOAT
Now that the severe cold has left us it is a great time to check on your boat. If you keep your boat in a slip on a lift, you should check on her periodically. I go about once a week but then I am only half mile away.

Some things you should check would include:
1. Lift is up and still in the correct position, the pump is unplugged and if you have an air valve, it is closed.2. The lines securing the boat to the dock, should the lift fail, are secure but loose enough to allow the boat to fall without damage
3. Dock bumpers are still secure in case, again the lift should fail
4. Lift a portion of the cover and check that no critters have invaded and no moisture is present. I use moisture absorbers just in case
5. Check the battery tenders are still connected and plugged in. You want to keep a charge on your batteries in the cold.
6. Secure the cover as tight as possible and make sure no lines are rubbing the boat in the wind
7. Lastly, and this is just me. I give her a pat on the bow and tell her I’ll see her soon. Only two months to go before boating season.

It has been a great year for Cap’n Denny Lee and I have enjoyed all the people I met this year on the lake. As I get ready to winterize Blue Belle, I look forward to next year and all the great times and folks I will get the honor of enjoying the lake with.
