For our final Welcome Wednesday, let's meander into Kipling's Carriage House. The 1895 former home of Rudyard Kipling's carriages, his carriage driver Matthew Howard, and the Howard family is in many ways a miniature version of Naulakha. With 2 beautiful bedrooms looking out over the expansive New England hillside and gorgeous woodwork throughout, it sure doesn't feel miniature though. For aspiring chefs, the light filled former greenhouse that is now the kitchen is a real treat. Any way you slice it, it's a pretty darn good place to put your feet up!

For our final peaceful panorama, we bring you to the front door of The Sugarhouse. Can you smell the maple syrup in the air? This Vermont specialty permeates everything about The Sugarhouse, which was used for many years to boil the think sap from the surrounding maple trees into the deliciously sweet pancake topping (and for Vermonters, everything topping!). Today it's the perfect solo or couples retreat in the sugarbush. And just a 5 minute walk down the hill to Scott Farm Orchard market and pick-your-own apples and the matchless mortarless stone walls at The Stone Trust Stone Park. Who's hungry for waffles?

It's Welcome Wednesday! Welcome to the 1849 home of Asa Dutton and his family. Asa knew how to pick a location, that's for sure. The Landmark with a view to end all views is tied with Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha as our largest property with 4 bedrooms, some of which look directly out over the stone walls, Scott Farm Orchard, and rolling hills of Southern Vermont and New Hampshire beyond. The elegant interior, complete with period wallpaper, cozy gas stove, and historic writing desk really send you back to a different era. No TVs and no distractions from the slow, peaceful enjoyment of timeless beauty!

For this week's Welcome Wednesday, we're wandering into Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha. At the end of a winding country driveway is the only house ever built for the Nobel Prize winning author, and it's spectacular inside and out. The home's period furnishings lend a refined air to the home, and the view from the large bay windows gives a real sense of Kipling's intent to situate the house as a ship sailing the "seas" of Southern Vermont's rolling hills. There's no better place in Vermont to put your feet up than in the room where "The Jungle Book" was written!

All Landmarks have exceptional locations, and many have stellar views, but the view from Dutton Farmhouse is definitely the one to beat. Imagine waking up in the morning to the sunrise from the next state pouring in your window, then making a hot cup of coffee for breakfast outdoors (or under our covered patio or delectable living room fitted with period furniture) and watching the amber, red, and purple sun shed its life-giving light over the seemingly endless hills and apple orchard that make up your front yard. Mornings at Dutton are pure bliss 😊

There is something truly special about its country setting, the warmth of the bricks and the gas fireplace, the vast 1800s barn with its gameroom, the magnificent historic dining room. When you're here, it really feels like another time...but with the benefit of indoor plumbing and wifi!
