Today it's time for a throwback to 2018, when Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha was the subject of a Vermont Historical Society "This Place in History" feature! The 4 minute video is a breezy watch and gives a great tour of Kipling's "ship on a hill" and its history with a beautiful snowy backdrop 😃

Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha: Famed British author Rudyard Kipling lived in Vermont while writing The Jungle Book and other novels. His wife's family was from Dummerston and that connection brought Kipling to the area. He designed the house to look like a ship. The historic house is owned and preserve...

Vermont is synonymous with maple syrup, producing more than any other state. As you drive around our sugary state, you're bound to see sugarhouses, where the raw sap is boiled into syrup, everywhere you look. But there's only one place where you can spend the night in a sugarhouse!

Our Sugarhouse overnight rental was built in 1915, and while the boiler is gone, the feeling of an extra cozy private New England cabin in the woods is abundant. Abutting the Scott Farm Orchard and surrounded by majestic maples, the 1 bedroom Sugarhouse is a step into history and out of your worries 🍁

Thanks very much to Brattleboro Savings & Loan for their work to help repainting some of the trim at our historic Dutton Farmhouse property as part of their annual Walk the Walk Day!

It's these little details, like historically accurate paint colors and reproduction historic wallpaper that really make staying in a Landmark property something special and different. We're grateful for the help in making the history of this 1849 farmhouse shine!

Happy Halloween from all of us at The Landmark Trust USA!

There may not be any skeletons in the chimney, and we've cleared all the spider webs from the porch, but you can still enjoy the view at Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha just like the home's most famous houseguest, Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who we believe to be in the photo here c.1895.

The past comes alive when you stay overnight at any of our historic homes...but we can't promise no ghosts 👻
