On Sept. 11, 2001, America was changed forever.

It has been 20 long years since the attacks, but that tragic day, which served as a true test of the American spirit, will always be remembered.

It is on this day we observe Patriot Day and all that it represents. Today we remember the victims of 9/11 and pray for their families. We honor the value of life itself and those we've loved and lost. We commend our country’s resilience, and applaud the strength of the American spirit.

Paper is one of the most recycled materials in North America. The industry grows and regrows its raw material (wood fiber from trees), derives most of the energy to drive its processes from renewable carbon-neutral biofuel, and cleans and returns more than 90% of the water it uses to the environment, with the rest evaporating or remaining in the paper products.

The Marriage of Print and Digital

QR Codes

You may have begun to notice some unusual looking square boxes appearing in print publications and advertisements. These 2D matrix barcodes are called QR Codes, or Quick Response Codes. QR Codes are similar to the standard bar codes that currently appear on all types of consumer products, except QR codes can contain much more information. Basically, QR codes promote interaction and engagement through the mobile phone.

How Do QR Codes Work?

A QR Code works by simply scanning the code with a mobile device that is equipped with a camera and QR Code reader application. These applications can be downloaded for free on popular smartphone platforms such as iPhone and Android.

For marketers, QR codes allow advertisements, brochures, posters - even clothing or billboards – to direct users to mobile landing pages that contain much more information and interactivity than can be afforded on the printed page. This integration between print and web via mobile adds a new dimension of communication to any marketing or outreach effort.

PAPER INSPIRATION
Inspired by science fiction and engineering, Greg Olijnyk, a graphic artist based in Melbourne, crafts oversized robot sculptures using cardboard, tracing paper and glue.

By working with cardboard, Olijnyk is able to build geometric, angular shapes that make the perfect parts for his droid subjects. Cardboard is a flexible, strong, and a forgiving material to work with. The artist uses cardboard in a variety of thicknesses, from 0.25 to 1 mm, but he also occasionally repurposes packaging that he finds around the house. Enjoy!
