Our Flying Scot is the perfect boat for beginner sailors, kids and adults alike! ⛵️ We offer private and semi-private lessons tailored to the unique needs of each student. Our lessons begin with safety briefings and a discussion of that day’s conditions (wind, weather, and tide). After a brief "chalk talk," covering the skills we will practice on the water, it's time to rig the boat and do some sailing! An expert instructor will be on board, providing a safe and supportive environment for practicing new skills and gaining confidence on the water. When we return to the dock, we cover de-rigging basics and run a debrief to solidify what we learned that day. Lessons are not only informative but a really fun way to spend your days this summer!

Sailing on your own can be daunting, but with our expert guidance you’ll be cruising with confidence on our beautiful Long Island bays! 🌊 We usually start our new students sailing aboard our Flying Scot, with the instructor and student in the same boat. After a few lessons, kids move on to the Opti (pictured) and the instructor coaches from our 13’ Boston Whaler. And don’t worry- we don’t put our adult students in the Opti, we have a Sunfish as well for lessons! ⛵️ It’s never too late to learn how to sail, so we hope to see you out on the water with us this summer!

Our learn to sail course, The Fundamentals of Small Boat Sailing, is designed to give students with little to no sailing experience a jump start on their sailing career! ⛵️ You’ll learn the basics of sailing theory, knots, boat handling, sail trim and steering with the tiller. These lessons are fun, informative, and will have each student feeling confident at the tiller by the end of the session! We offer The Fundamentals of Small Boat Sailing over the course of four weekday evening lessons or one long but productive day on Saturdays or Sundays. If you are looking for a great way to spend your evenings this summer, join us out on the bay!

“I live in Manhattan and bought an inflatable sailboat that I can fit in my car. I could use a refresher lesson. Is that something you can help with?” That’s not how most of our phone calls start with new customers, but that’s what Dekel told us when he called the other day! We did a refresher lesson with him on our Flying Scot, and then got his Tiwal sailboat inflated and took her out for a sail! We had no idea that there were inflatable sailboats, or how much fun they could be! We had a great sail with Dekel and a lot of fun trying out his Tiwal. As the stern of the boat turns through the wind, the sail suddenly fills from the other side, then swings over to the leeward side of the boat. But gybes don't have to be scary if they're controlled.
