NEW 'Submarine Shuttle Service' in the works for the San Juan Islands! The images depict the final design proposals for the inaugural submarine, set to be christened "The Orca Voyager". Which design gets your vote?

In an innovative step towards revolutionizing travel in the San Juan Islands, SalishSea Transit Inc. plans to launch an unprecedented interisland submarine shuttle service. This groundbreaking initiative offers travelers a unique alternative to traditional air and sea travel, while providing an unforgettable underwater experience.

If approved, "The Orca Voyager" passenger submarine will be designed to have comfortable seating and panoramic windows for an unparalleled view of the depths of the Salish Sea. The journey will be competitively timed with traditional ferry services, but with the added benefit of avoiding surface weather conditions and providing a scenic underwater route. Safety is a top priority, with the submarine equipped with the latest navigation and emergency systems, ensuring a safe passage through the Salish Sea.

Pricing for the submarine service is set to be on par with higher-end private transportation services, making it an attractive option for tourists and locals alike. ⛴️ WASHINGTON STATE FERRIES ⛴️
There are several modes of transportation to the beautiful San Juan Islands. Most often, people take one of the iconic Washington State Ferries from Anacortes. It’s highly recommended you make a reservation for your car. Walk-on passengers don’t require reservations. MAKE SURE YOU ARRIVE AT LEAST 30 MINS BEFORE DEPARTURE OR YOU MAY LOSE YOUR RESERVATION!.................................................

From late April to late September, Puget Sound Express takes passengers from Port Townsend to Friday Harbor. Additionally, you can hire one of the following services:

Kenmore Air and Friday Harbor Seaplanes offer scheduled flights from Boeing, Lake Union, and S. Lake Washington as well as shuttle service from Sea-Tac airport.

Catch a connecting flight and enjoy a scenic ride to the Islands. Transfer to a commuter flight and enjoy the 30-60 minute tour over Puget Sound.
🚗 RENT A CAR
Rent a car and drive to the Anacortes ferry landing in 2.5 to 3 hours to catch a Washington State Ferry. Ferry reservations should be made in advance..................................................

🍁 TO/FROM CANADA 🍁

🍁 From Vancouver, BC to the San Juan Islands 🍁
Drive from Vancouver, BC towards the Peace Arch Border Crossing. Once you cross the border into the U.S., continue on I-5 for approximately 69 miles until you reach the city of Burlington, Washington. Take Exit 230 for State Route 20 (SR-20) towards Anacortes and follow the signs to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal. From there, you can take the Washington State Ferries to Lopez, Orcas, Shaw or San Juan Island. Reservations for vehicles are highly recommended.

🍁 From Victoria, BC to Friday Harbor/San Juan Island 🍁
✈️ Kenmore Air services daily round-trip flights between Friday Harbor Airport on San Juan Island and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) on Vancouver Island, just 20-minutes outside of Victoria, BC. Passengers can also travel directly between Paine Field in Everett, Boeing Field in Seattle, and Friday Harbor Airport and Victoria International Airport.
🛥️ Bay to Bay Charters offers round-trip passenger water taxi services from Van Isle Marina in Sidney, BC (about a 30-minute drive north of Victoria) to Friday Harbor on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
