I wanted to take a moment and encourage all Floridians to vote Yes on this year's Amendment 2!

Amendment 2 is a proposition that will make it a Florida Constitutional Right to fish and hunt. This amendment will insure that Floridians will have access to hunting and fishing and that this right can never be taken away by politicians. I applaud Florida lawmakers for getting ahead of any issues and giving Floridians the right to voice their approval for this. You may not realize it, but at this very moment, there are lawmakers in other states taking away the right of their citizens to hunt and fish. Our lawmakers wanted to make sure that didn't happen. I fully support his amendment, which will guarantee that my grandson and generations beyond can enjoy Natural Florida the same way I have.

The Rapala Skitter Prop is one of my go to lures for topwater action. A lot of people overlook the effectiveness of a prop lure for saltwater action. Snook, seatrout, tarpon, jacks and even redfish are quite happy to crush these plugs. Vary the retrieve to meet the type of action you need; soft and subtle will result in quieter action with a bubble trail or you can twitch it hard and fast, making a lot noise and surface disturbance. It all depends on what the fish want that particular morning.

Scouting days are fun, relaxing and just some time to spend on the water with good friends that are willing to explore and take the chance that you may not find any fish. Yesterday was a scouting day with one of the best guides that ever fished South Florida, Rick Earle.

Rick and I started the day my casting some topwater lures for snook. The activity wasn't hot and heavy, but we managed to land a couple. Finally, toward the end of our area, I had a decent sized snook crush my Rapala Skitter Walk. The snook did the typical thing, rushing toward a dock piling and unfortunately I couldn't stop her. The barnacles cut through 20 pound like it was nothing.

We decided to head to the back waters and hunt for redfish and seatrout. I decided to hit an area I hadn't been to in over 4 years. Yes, there are areas we often forget about, passing them day after day and thinking that we really need to check it out again some day. I decided to make it that day. We had perfect water conditions, with a falling tide; the weather not so much, with low, grey/white cloud cover. Rick said he wanted to pole the skiff, so I could fly fish. I told him we would start with the trolling motor, easing along a deep drop-off. Rick worked the area with topwater and crushed seatrout after seatrout. I worked a soft plastic, trying to check for redfish.

My first sign should have been the first 6 redfish schooled up that refused to eat the jig. But, we kept going. We finally reached a beautiful area of seagrass and potholes, where Rick said it was too pretty not to pole and fly fish. Before we could change out, two redfish went cruising through a pothole in front of us. Both casually refused a soft swimbait. With that, I decided a crab fly would be the ticket.

Fast forward two hours. Three fly changes, over 25 shots at redfish, seatrout and snook, and ZERO takes. Nothing was interested in eating. In all of that time, we had one snook and one redfish that took a little interest in the offerings, but none of them ate. At the end of the day, Rick commented that he'd never seen that many good casts refused. Sure, the conditions were tough, but we saw fish, made perfect presentation, and nada. It just goes to prove that no matter how good of a team you are, the fish don't always cooperate.

Days like that can force an angler to have a drink of rum or bourbon, trying to erase the memories. But hey, it could be worse, I could be stuck in an office.

We are just about to wrap up the month of July; where the heck has the first half of the year gone? I don’t know about you, but for me, the first six months has flown by. Still plenty of opportunity to get that Slam or Grand Slam in before the end of summer. Tarpon are here in good numbers and cooperating on most days. Snook have probably been the toughest to catch. They're big and they are not stupid. Redfish and Seatrout are cooperating if you can make the cast.

It took a little longer than I expected, but the big tarpon are here! If you want to enjoy some shots at the big fish, now is the time to book your trip!

It has been a very busy few weeks; no, I'm not complaining. Summer has officially started and the fishing has been really hot. Here's a little juvenile tarpon action from last week. Our tarpon fishery is one of the best in the world, especially for the juvenile fish (up to 50 pounds). We broke a couple of 25-30 pounders off, but had a good time putting them in the air.

Snook, seatrout, redfish and black drum are also around. Throw in a large number of sharks we are seeing inshore and the fishing is going great. Book your charter now, before the best dates fill up!

Paul Greaves joins Captain John Tarr for some juvenile tarpon fun in Central Florida. This area has some of the best juvenile tarpon fishing in the world.

Later today, I will be putting out a video on "Where to cast". This seems to be an issue that a lot of anglers, especially new ones, have difficulty with. So, I'm going to try to help answer that question and hopefully help you have a little more success on the water. It will help you know exactly how to target a fish, like the one in this video, and others that you encouter during your outdoor adventures.

Just returned from West, Central Georgia. I was there for four days, filming with Mad River Outfitters and Flip Pallot. It was a spectacular adventure and there were tons of new memories made. New friends, new stories, and some wonderful fishing and hunting. When Brian, from Mad River Outfitters, gets the films posted, I will share them.

Here's the interview with Flip Pallot, where he answered a lot of questions from fans. A little heads-up on this interview. The day we shot it, it was blowing between 30-40 MPH. Despite windscreens on the mics, the wind is still able to be heard at certain points. I was going to edit the noise out, but it altered Flip's voice, and the isn't happening on my video. So, we just dealt with it, like a windy day on the flats. Hope you enjoy it. This is completely unedited in his replies to the questions asked.

Many anglers ask what they need to be prepared to do for a day of fishing the flats. This video demonstrates some fly casting practice techniques that will help you prepare. While a fly rod is used in this video, you can also practice these same techniques with conventional gear and add to your success rate on the water.

Captain John Tarr, of Tailhunter Outdoor Adventures, explains and demonstrates a great way to practice fly casting for success on the water. The video concen...

The temperatures are warming up and the weather is starting to stabilize; for now any way. Redfish bite has been good and snook are starting to fire up too. Soon, tarpon will be here in good numbers and the days will get better and better. April and May are almost full, but I have some limited days available. June is booking now and so is July. If you want to get in on the action, hit me up soon!

It's been a busy couple of weeks. Took last weekend to help introduce kids to the great outdoors, at Bass Pro Shops. It was a fun two days and the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves. One of our main goals is to get kids interested in the outdoors and educate them on the importance of spending time in nature. If you ever have questions, please message me and I'll be happy to answer them!

If you spend any time fishing freshwater in Florida, then you know the devastation the herbicide spraying programs have caused. There is no grass in the St John's River and even the vast majority of lakes in Central Florida have no grass. The herbicide spraying of these waterways by FWC and the Army Corp of Engineers is criminal. It is quite obvious that neither of these agencies actually care about the well being of Florida's Natural Environment.

I cannot urge each of you enough to email the Governor's Office and demand this program come to an end! Not next month, not next year, but immediately!

It's almost time. Been doing some scouting and it appears spawning season is around the corner. I've seen some of the biggest fish ever this year. Hoping the water drops just a little to make it easier, but either way, it is looking good.

Just completed a rod review for the TFO Axiom II-X fly rod. I wanted a review that covered more than the initial thoughts on the rod; I wanted to make a review that talked about how the rod performed and looked after years of use/abuse. Here it is. Enjoy!

When I do a product review, I like to remind everyone that I get absolutely zero money from it. In fact, I WILL NOT accept payment to review products. I do have some programs that I belong to with companies, where I obtain discounts for items I order, but I still pay for them. In those agreements, I

Professional Guided Outdoor Adventures

Welcome to Tailhunter Outdoor Adventures, where anglers from around the world come to join Captain John Tarr on the fabled Mosquito Lagoon. Located on the Space Coast of Florida, within easy driving from Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Cocoa Beach, the area offers superb fishing for many of Florida’s famous saltwater fish. Redfish, seatrout, snook, tarpon, black drum and more await you in one of the most visually spectacular areas Florida has to offer. This truly is the area where cutting edge, space technology unites with the wild, natural beauty of the Florida wetlands.

Mosquito Lagoon and the surrounding waters offer miles of shallow water, sight fishing opportunity. Here, in the company of Captain John Tarr, anglers will pit their skills against some of the wariest shallow water fish around. Sight fishing is a team effort where angler and guide mesh together to hunt down their quarry in the shallow, backwater flats along the space coast. Anglers are tested in their skills of casting, retrieval to entice a prey response, and ultimately fish fighting skills required to land some of the toughest fish on the planet. All of this action takes place while dolphins frolic, manatees cruise, eagles and osprey soar overhead, and crabs and shrimp dance in the tide.

Captain John Tarr has more than three decades of fishing experience in this location. He has been guiding anglers and sharing his passion for sight fishing for almost 20 of those 30 years. Captain John is a certified fly-casting instructor, published fly tier and author, and has guided hundreds of anglers to their angling dreams. Known for his patience and hard work ethic, Captain John has worked with novice anglers as well as some of the finest anglers in the world; either way, he does everything in his power to insure that you have a memorable time on the water and the best chance of successfully catching your dream fish.

Contact him now to book your angling adventure or to ask any questions you have. While you are here, spend a little time and look through the photo gallery or watch some videos; relax, kick back, and enjoy looking through the pages and reading about recent adventures.
