Business Spotlight - Alden's Mill House
The Alden Mill House is celebrating its 40th year in business. The Alden Mill House was started in 1984, by selling Chef Geno’s all-purpose seasoning Miracle Blend and other Pepper Mill Spices. The founder of Pepper Mill Spice Company, Eugene Moglovkin (aka Chef Geno), was a famous American Chef with European training. He had help beginning and running the business by his wife Joy Moglovkin. Although Geno was the creator, Joy was the business backbone that made the business happen! The business continues to be run by family: their daughter Colleen. They buy only the highest quality of spices and kosher flake salt. Their kosher flake salt has no trace of iodine to alter the desired flavor. The Mill House prides itself on producing quality products. They grind and mix all of the spices, label their own bottles, and then fill each bottle individually.
This is a store that should not be overlooked during the holiday shopping season! From seasonings, dip mixes, fabulous kitchen items and other gifty items that are just fun, you are sure to find something for everyone on your list. They also have a nice variety of gift baskets or boxes that make for an exceptional corporate gift idea.
The Alden Mill House is open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. The staff is friendly and they enjoy helping you find all of your favorites or introducing you to a new spice or recipe idea. They will be closed from December 31st to May 1st but, the online shop is always open and they ship year-round. https://aldenmillhouse.com/
If you are a loyal customer or are journeying in to browse for the first time, take note of a few dates! The Mill House will be running a sale on November 23rd, 29th & 30th. Elk Rapids Chamber - Business Spotlight: Ames Street Cafe
Nestled in the central part of Elk Rapids is a sweet little family-owned and operated café bustling with delicious scratch-made dishes and friendly service. Ames St. Café began when owner Allie saw a need in the small community for a restaurant with healthy options and an elevated dining experience. Allie, her mother, and partner Landen pour their hearts out every day to bring the best foods to the table. Ames St. Café is proud to serve locally sourced ingredients in their meals and love to watch their customers' faces light up when they fall in love with a new dish.
Serving everything from a traditional breakfast, and special order omelets on the weekend to soups, sandwiches, salads, and smash burgers. There’s something on the menu for everyone, and all are welcome at this café! Not on the menu, but if you’re in the know, you will ask for the “villager special”. This special includes 2 eggs cooked your way, toast and choice of potato for just $8. Be sure to try the delicious coffee from Panther Coffee and the homemade blackberry jam.
Allie’s Mom has been given the title of the “cookie queen” and makes homemade goodness daily. You won't want to pass by the bakery case, where you can find everything from cookies and bars, to macaroons, and cinnamon roll focaccia.
Ames St. Café has some upcoming events to look forward to: A family crafting day on November 19th (more information to come) and smash burgers at Ethanology on New Years Eve!
