This November is going to be all about the Western portion of Mexico! What better way to start it off than by Celebrating Dia de los Mu***os!! (The Day of the Dead) 🌺💀🌺
If you’re not familiar, the Day of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. During this time, locals believe that the veil between the world of the spirits and the living is lifted, so their deceased loved ones can travel back for a visit.
For this celebration, locals all over Mexico, and people of Mexican heritage hold parades, parties, sing, dance, wear colorful makeup, and make offerings to lost loved ones. ❤️

When visiting the Yucatán Peninsula, exploring the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá is an absolute must! 🤩

Chichén Itzá was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988. It is thought to have been a religious, military, political, and commercial centre that thrived from around 600 A.D. to the 1200's.
At its peak, Chichén Itzá would have been home to roughly 35,000 people making it the most popular city in the Yucatán Peninsula!

You can still visit the graphic stone carvings at structures like the ball court, Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of the Skulls! 💀💀

When it gets dark, you can enjoy a sound and light show that illuminates the cities unique geometry.

So far, 29 pink lakes have been discovered around the world and one of them is located in the Rio Lagartos Municipality, Yucatán, Mexico! 🇲🇽
This lake is named Las Coloradas, which means 'blush red' in Spanish. Las Coloradas gets its unique tint from red-colored algae, plankton and brine shrimp that use the salty water as their habitat. 🦐🦐
Although they have made it illegal to swim here, it is still an amazing sight to see!

It is said that the Yucatán Peninsula is the site of the Chicxulub crater, which was formed by an asteroid about 6mi to 9mi (10km to 15km) in diameter. The impact, which occurred around 65m years ago, caused worldwide climate problems and may have triggered the extinction of the dinosaurs!
