One of the many great vineyards, Engelheim Vineyards, to visit while staying at Riverside Retreat

At Engelheim Vineyards, our journey started with a vision rooted in family, faith, and farming.

Gary Engel, who grew up on a farm in South Alabama and served 27 years in the Army, knew the mountains would be the perfect place to return to his farming roots. In 2007, he and Jan Engel made their dream a reality by purchasing the land that would become Engelheim, which means "Angel Home" in German.

Since planting their first vines in 2009 and harvesting their first vintage in 2011, they've been blessed with the opportunity to share their passion for winemaking with all of you. The opening of the Bavarian-style tasting room in 2014 and the event center, Venue in the Vines, in 2022, has allowed them to celebrate milestones and special moments with our amazing community.

But what truly makes Engelheim Vineyards special is the way we live our values: faith, family, and sustainability. We’re so grateful for God’s blessings as we continue to grow this family venture. Our story is a testament to the power of dreams, hard work, and living in harmony with His plan.
