THIS EMAIL IS INTENDED FOR CURRENT GUESTS AND GUESTS TRAVELING TO OUR AREA AND STAYING WITH MOUNTAIN OASIS CABIN RENTALS -STORM/WEATHER ALERT
Be Prepared: Hurricane-Force Winds, Heavy Rains, Lightning and Potential Tornadoes to Impact Georgia
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - From our Governor
ATLANTA (September 25, 2024) – With Gov. Brian Kemp declaring a state of emergency due to Hurricane Helene, Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) personnel are gearing up in preparation for the incoming storm system.
*********************************************************************
At this time we (Mountain Oasis Cabin Rentals) do not know how Hurricane Helene will impact our area, but, as with any major weather occurrence, we want to be as prepared as possible and our guests safety is our primary concern. We do expect high winds accompanied by heavy rain at times and that could result in power outages, fallen trees, etc. Should this happen during your stay, please be aware of the following:
Most powers outages (unless in Resort Communities) also means loss of water due to private wells utilizing an electric pump. Be sure to have bottled water on hand in that case for drinking. Toilets will allow one flush but tank will not be able to refill. If the property you are at has a hot tub, you can use a bucket, small garbage can, etc. to scoop water from hot tub and pour it directly in the toilet bowl, gravity will take care of self flushing. If you do not have a hot tub but on a creek, river, etc., you can use that water.
In the case of power outage, please do not call our office to report the outage, but respond by text to (706) 605-3724 with either the property name or the property address. 99% of all power outages that happen during storms we are already aware of and they have been reported. Crews are already on standby and will be dispatched when outages start occurring. Please understand, the power companies DO NOT give us any estimated times of power being restored. Typically the guest will know before we do when power is restored. Depending on the severity of outages, most outages are restored within 6 to 24 hours (sometimes sooner) but can also be longer. You are encouraged to text updates, allowing 3-4 hours between them.
Should a tree(s) fall on the property resulting in your driveway being blocked, damage to the house, etc., text us so we can get someone out asap.
Please be patient when texting wanting a reply. We very well could be in the same situation as you, without power, internet, etc., and most likely are dealing with a lot of other properties and guests experiencing the same thing.
SHOULD ANYTHING HAPPEN THAT CAUSES A TRUE EMERGENCY RESULTING IN HARM OR NEEDING LIFE SAVING ASSISTANCE, CALL 9-1-1.
There should be a plastic “emergency” box under the kitchen sink that has a flashlight, batteries, small candles, jar, lighter, etc. If you need any of these items due to power outage, please use what you need and leave the box on the kitchen counter upon departure so it can be re-stocked for the next guest.
If you are concerned about food spoilage, keep this in mind. The less the refrigerator is opened the cooler food will stay. You may want to move some items to the freezer department to keep cooler longer.
