Up coming, for me, and maybe you if interested, is a Safari, Zanzibar, and Victoria Falls. The plan is late Oct. Into Nov. 2025. We would recover from our jet lag in Zanzibar, do the 10 day Safari, then spend 3 or 4 days at Victoria Falls. You can do part or all with us. If you are interested drop me a message. I can also book a variety of other Safari's. My younger more adventurous clients did a back to back Kenya and Tanzania camping safari that was relatively easy on the bank account for a longer than 2 week trip.

Exotic trips come with some hoops like visas and Vaccinations. Although some are just advised things like the yellow fever vaccine are required a certain amount of time before travel. Hep A and B are a series that takes at least 8 months if you do the 3 shot protocol.

Cannes has a lot to offer as a port. We opted to visit Nice, the Midievil village of Eze, and Monaco.

Nice is a beauty and has a great public train to get around to the city center. The markets are lovely and lively. The boardwalk along the Cote d'Azur is a beautiful walk.

The Medieval Village of Eze is another town where cars are mostly missing. Charming with stores, statuary and churches. Perfumme is a big deal here.

Monaco is another small nation. You can see reminders of the races on your way. We parked the bus and took escalators and elevators to the area we walked. We came out a the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. We walked past an Amazing church that we later explored the inside of. Further in we came to the palace. From one side of the Palace you can look out and see 3 countries. There are shops and dining you can explore . A lovely garden skirts the walkway back to the parking area.

We got back to the ship with enough time we could have explored Cannes more but we're a bit worn out.

This is a lovely port and I would love to go back. I also really love how Virgin Voyages uses the lights while in different ports.

This trip was my second time in Ajaccio. This time we were there when the markets were open and there were so many items that made me wish our farmers market was more like them. Like most ports there is the Little Train (runs 2 routes) that stops at either the Napoleon monument or the Sanguaries. FMy first visit I did the bus but they did not stop at all. Both a around $10 pp. The longer routes let you see more of the beaches that would be lovely to visit at a slightly warmer time. There are some adventure and water tours that may interest you or this is a good port to just walk around.

Just some ship life pics to give you an idea of how we spent our time. The food was generally very good. The alcohol was definitely different from what you likely get at your all inclusive. Ask me about how the VV bar tab works. Activities, games or just chilling were easily achieved. Despite my pic we did spend a decent amount of time in the hot tubs. The adults only atmosphere really makes sea days or really the whole cruise super enjoyable. Message me to find out all the places you can sail to with Virgin Voyages.

Of course a cruise is not just ports and sea days but also nights. Virgin Voyages offers options into the morning. Musical shows from solo singers to full productions happen across the ship. On the Scarlet Lady the Super club was comedy based where other ships have a variety show, or the Another Rose option. Many of its itineraries have overnights where you can spend the night partying away like Ibiza. Karaoke with everyone at planned events or rent a private room and be a private Rockstar.

On sail away night there is a party with champagne for a while. Scarlet night is always big and goes late into the night so pack some red. Since our cruise was over Halloween there were different things planned across that night.

Message me if your interested in booking a Virgin Voyages cruise or other line.

Our 4th port was La Spezia. We did not do a prepackaged tour from here. Instead we did Cinque Terre on our own.

This was my second visit as I had previously done a ship tour when we ported in Marina de Carrara. That is I er an hour drive from Le Spezia where that tour also really began.

If you were to stay in the area there are also hiking trails that take you through the 5 and allow for a much different set of views.

We started our day by purchasing the ferry to Cinque Terre and returned by train. We had to taxi back to the port but it was cheap and easy to find.

The ferry has different purchase options depending on your needs and we went with the one way option. This allowed us to stop at Porto Venere (the gateway to the 5) which you can't reach via the train. This is lovely little stop with an impressive church and yummy focaccia. We continued on with the ferry after exploring and saw Riomaggiore, Manarola, and Corniglia from the water. We stopped again at Vernazza here we had lunch and explored. We finished our ferry ride at Monterosso.

After a bit of exploring we took the train back to La Spezia. This took less than 20 minutes making stops in each village. I prepurchased these tickets before the trip. If the weather had been such that the ferry was not going out we would have done both directions that way. The train was nice and clean. Exiting in La Spezia was very busy with lots of people. Once you exit the terminal though taxis are easy to find. $15 dollars for a couple and you are back at the port.

From this port we could of visited Florence, Pisa, and more.
If you have an interest in vacationing in or visiting this area message me.

Rome part 2. We had lunch and then began the second half of our walking tour at the top of the Spanish Steps, proceeded to the Trevi Fountain, then to the Roman Forum and finished at the Colosseum.

Lots of Rome is under refurbishment for the 2025 Jubilee. There were many things covered.

My phone also gave up the ghost pre the Coliseum.
I had an extra battery but my cable wasn't working.

You could spend several days exploring these places and work some more in. I do still feel guides are important to get the background you otherwise would miss.

Cruises are great to see a lot of locations while only unpacking once but it does mean less time than an extended stay in any location. I can help you plan all types of vacation options. Drop me a message to get started.

Our next port was Civetavecchia. You could visit Pompeii, take the provided buses to the middle of the port town or to the train, other locations, or like us Rome. It is an hour and a half drive from the port to Rome. This will be in 2 parts as we packed 17000 steps and a whole lot into the remaining time.

The Pope generally addresses the masses 2 days a week but not on our port day. I just missed him on my first trip through Rome. I employed a black car transfer that time that allowed me to see a lot without the walking in between.

We started with the Vatican museum. You can see by the crowds and lines how beneficial it is to have a guide. Our guide told us so much info and background while keeping us moving. Each part of this tour could have easily taken days to really take it all in. If we were on our own we would have lacked info and likely never made it past the museum.

You are not allowed to take pics or talk in the Sistine Chapel. They rotate you to different spots so you get a chance to take it in from different perspectives.

With a guide we again got to use a shortcut to get to St Peter's Basilica. The tour starts in the area where several tombs of popes are displayed. Moving up to the Cathedral which again could take a
Day or more to take in all that it holds.

The next morning we sailed by another active Volcano. It was cool that the ship messaged us a heads up so we would not miss it. There are plusses and minuses when you cruise, tour, or do an extended visit. Seeing things from a vantage point you would not get from land is one of the big cruise perks. Message me for more information on this and other cruise lines.

Our second port was Catania, Sicily. You could spend time at this port and see and taste a bit of Sicily. We opted to see Mt. Etna and Taormina.

My. Etna is a very active volcano. It was neat to see the differences in the many recent lava flows. We walked up around one of the craters. There was a longer dedicated tour that allowed you to take a cable car higher and trek further up.

We however also wanted to see Taormina. This no car area is home to some Roman/Greecan ruins, great views, cute stalls, and wonderful food. We had an extremely tasty fresh meal before setting out to explore the area.

We had a few hours after the tour that we could have walked around Catania a bit.

While not a port, sea days are an important part of cruises. My favorite is to start the day with bottomless drinks brunch for $25. One sea day we generally also visit the Spa. Sea days mean chances to use the pool, hot tubs, participate in trivia, dance classes, paint and sips, play arcade games, lay in your hammock, or just time to chill however you want.

The ship tends to have many different music venues and vibes to suit everyone's moods.

The first port on our, 10 night unpack only once and see so many places, cruise was Mykonos. This was our second time porting here. Last year we overnighted at the port. That allowed us to tour Delos island, spend some time on the ship when it rained and then go back into Mykonos town for dinner and a lovely sunset. Last year the next morning we did a walking tour of the area and explored more on our own.

This year we chose to do a class on making mosaics after seeing the impressive beauty of the ones on Delos. Masterpieces ours were not but it was a neat experience. After we explored Mykonos town and saw more areas than our first trip. Last trip we did a quick walk through of a long standing bakery which we returned to and took some time to sample some of their delicacies. We could have taken the local buses to the beach areas but opted to just chill.

Virginia tried to ditch us and stay on Mykonos but we convinced her to continue on the cruise with us.

There are several itineraries that include this port. Message me for more information. Have kids? We we can go over family friendly lines that include Mykonos.

My Virgin Voyages cruise was lovely and the port by port posts will soon be posted. The cruise started in Athens and ended in Barcelona. Both are main departure ports for this cruise line in Europe. Portsmouth also is an option.

When people talk about jet lag they are not kidding. It is always recommended you fly in a day or two early to give your body time to reset, tour the area, and avoid flight delays disrupting your cruise.

This line is adults only. They also cruise in the Caribbean but are adding Alaska and more in 2025 and 2026. This was my fourth cruise with them. Each ship is a little different as far as decorations and entertainment. I would love to discuss why this line may be perfect for you.

Why insurance you may ask? Just walking around the city from our cruise port. Could have easily been much worse. Insurance helps cover delays, lost luggage, and possible injuries. You just never know.
