This is a wonderful place to visit, just outside of Rome

Rome is glorious, but sometimes you need a breather - especially on a Sunday when the countryside is just calling out for a visit! Just 40 minutes from the chaos of the Eternal City lies Hadrian’s Villa, a sprawling countryside retreat built by an emperor who thought big. A secret hideaway on an artificial island? Yup. Astronomy Tower? You bet. How about a full-scale recreation of part of the Nile? Why not?

This is Roman excess at its jaw-dropping extreme, a villa built on a scale more fitting to god than man. Here the great emperor Hadrian escaped the palace intrigues of Rome to dream, write and dabble in his biggest passion - architecture. The much loved ‘bags fly free’ policy for all is ending.

It announced the policy change this week which means fliers will have to pay for checked bags if they are not preferred loyalty members or traveling business class.

It will start charging for checked bags from May 28, 2025.

Southwest hasn’t yet disclosed how much the fee will be.
