Congratulations to former guest artist Karel Cruz on a stellar career. 👏🏻

Principal dancer Karel Cruz announced his retirement from PNB today.

“I have gotten to dance such beautiful ballets I never dreamt I would do growing up in Cuba. I am incredibly grateful and fulfilled with my career at PNB and have appreciated the love and support from our organization, the dancers, our audience, and especially my wife, who has been here with me every moment.”

We are please to announce that Joseph Hetzer will be dancing the roles of Soldier Doll and Russian. Joseph is a junior at the University of Southern California’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, where he trains with William Forsythe, Jodie Gates, and other distinguished faculty. Here he has had opportunities to perform alongside the Martha Graham Dance Company, Hubbard Street, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. He started his training at South Bay Ballet under the direction of Diane Lauridsen and has also trained at prestigious ballet schools across the country, including Jacob’s Pillow. He was a recipient of the Petite Oasis Scholarship for male dancers from 2013- 2015 and was an honors student at the Regional Dance America festival. He has performed at a number of venues around Los Angeles and continues to train and work before he graduates in 2019. We are pleased to announce Elliot Weaver will be dancing the roles of Fritz and Nutcracker. Elliot is thrilled to be a part of this amazing production! Elliot is a sophomore at Classical Academy High School. He was most recently in the National Tour of the Sound of Music (Fredrich). Past credits include Moonlight’s Peter Pan (John Darling). Big Fish (Young Will) & Music Man (Winthrop). Other credits include Ragtime as Little Boy (San Diego Music Theatre), The Grinch Who Stole Christmas as Danny Who, Boo and Little Who ensemble (Old Globe). Elliot is on the competitive Tumbling and Trampoline team with Coastal Gym Academy and enjoys ballet and tap classes at SEDA. We are pleased to announce Madilyn Kienast will be dancing the role of Clara on Sunday, December 17th. Madilyn, an 8th grade student at San Elijo Middle School, has been dancing at San Elijo Dance & Music Academy since she was three years old. This is her ninth year dancing in West Coast Ballet Theater's Nutcracker and she is thrilled to be dancing the role of Clara. Some of her previous roles have included Angel, Ginger Kid, Marzipan and Harlequin Doll. Madilyn has attended several professional ballet company summer intensive programs including The School of American Ballet California Workshop, Ballet Austin and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Madilyn also danced for SEDMA's Moving Company competitive dance team for four years, competing in contemporary, jazz and hip hop at regional and national competitions. Madilyn is very appreciative of the support and outstanding instruction she has received from Lauri-Michelle and Ben Houk and all of the SEDMA teachers. She has made many lasting friendships at SEDMA and the Nutcracker is a special time for everyone. Madilyn is also thankful for her family and friends and their support of her love for dance. We are pleased to announce that Remy Corbin will be dancing the role of Clara on Saturday, December 16th. Remy is thrilled to be dancing as Young Clara in this year's Nutcracker! The winter holidays are her favorite time of year and bringing joy to people through performing in holiday productions is a big reason why. This is Remy's 6th Nutcracker with SEDMA. In between Nutcrackers she has been seen as Cindy Lou Who ('10, '11) and Betty Lou Who ('13) in the Old Globe Theatre's Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas and as Posey ('12) in Coronado Lamb's Players Theatre in Christmas On My Mind. Other roles include Molly in Annie ('11) and Bielke ('12) in Fiddler on the Roof with Vista's Moonlight Stage Productions and JoJo ('14) in Moonlight Youth Theatre's production of Seussical the Musical. Remy has enjoyed summer intensives with Ballet Austin and Los Angeles Ballet. She has been dancing with SEDMA since she was 2 1/2 years old and considers her dance friends her family. Remy is grateful for the fabulous instruction and ongoing love and support of Laurie-Michelle, Ben and the entire SEDMA staff, and she wishes all the happiest of holidays. We are pleased to announce that Trevor Naumann will be dancing the role of the Dream Prince.
Trevor began his training under Peter and Lisa Naumann, who are both alumni of the New York City Ballet under the directorship of George Balanchine and later Peter Martins. At the age of 15, he was asked to join the School of American Ballet on full scholarship. He trained there for 4 years until 2009 when he was offered a contract with Ballet West II. In 2011, he joined Ballet West fully as a Corps Artist, and was again promoted to demi soloist in 2016. Since joining he has performed featured roles in Stanon Welch’s "Madame Butterfly", "The Sleeping Beauty" co-choregraphed by Pamela Robinson-Harris and Mark Goldweber, John Cranko’s "Romeo and Juliet", William Christensen’s "The Nutcracker", as well as featured roles in Jiri Kylian’s "Petit Mort", "Overgrown path", and "Forgotten Land". Mr. Naumann also originated roles in new pieces by choreographers such as Nicolo Fonte, Val Canaparoli and Christopher Ruud.
