Heading on a wilderness adventure? Make sure you are avalanche aware!

According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, the avalanche forecast is currently considerable throughout Rocky Mountain National Park.

Many of the park’s winter trails are located near and/or within avalanche terrain. Avalanches can be triggered by snowshoers, winter hikers, backcountry skiers and wildlife. Always remember to look up if you are traveling at the base of a steep and snow-covered mountain slope.

Interested in learning more? A great resource is Rocky's avalanche webpage, found at https://www.nps.gov/romo/avalanche-awareness.htm.

For updates on avalanche forecasts and safety, visit the Colorado Avalanche Information Center's (CAIC) webpage at https://avalanche.state.co.us/

Drive slow and in low gear

Roads in Rocky Mountain National Park are icy with patchy snow. When driving, watch your speed and be prepared for winter driving conditions. Conditions can vary.

Vehicle Traction Law remains in effect throughout RMNP. What does this mean?

All vehicles (including 4-Wheel Drive, All-Wheel Drive, and 2-Wheel Drive) must have properly rated tires (Mud and Snow, Mountain and Snow or All-Weather Tires) with a minimum of 3/16” tread. If your vehicle does not have properly rated tires, you must use an approved traction control device. These may include snow chains, cables, tire/snow socks, or studded tires.

Native American cultures have a fascinating and profound connection to the stars, weaving astronomy into their spiritual, cultural, and everyday lives. For centuries, they gazed at the night sky not only to track time and changing seasons but also to guide their journeys and agricultural practices. The stars inspired rich mythologies and sacred traditions that still captivate us today. Every constellation held a story, blending science, spirituality, and survival into one awe-inspiring view of the cosmos.

Join us under the clear Rocky Mountain skies to discover the magic of stargazing—an experience that connects us to the ancient wisdom of the stars.

Today, I’m reminded of how lucky we are to call Rocky Mountain National Park home.

This morning, I had the privilege of guiding a father and daughter, sharing in the beauty of fresh snow and winter stillness only the mountains can offer.

The ability to recreate in these spaces, to explore their beauty, and to share that with others is a gift I’ll never take for granted.

Wishing everyone a day filled with connection—whether to family, friends, acquaintances, or the great outdoors. Happy Thanksgiving!
