While the history of this ancient recipe is much debated, there is no question as to why it remains in beauty cabinets around the world. Records of Queen of Hungary Water date back as early as the 1300s and variations of it have been used as a facial toner, perfume, hair rinse, and more.

This modernized variation is based on the one created by and is shared in her book Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health (which we carry at the store).

Ingredients
5 parts fresh or dried organic lemon balm
5 parts fresh or dried organic lavender
4 parts fresh or dried organic chamomile
4 parts fresh or dried organic roses
4 parts fresh or dried organic calendula
3 parts fresh or dried organic comfrey leaf
1 part fresh or dried organic lemon peel
1 part fresh or dried organic rosemary
1 part fresh or dried organic sage
1 part fresh or dried organic peppermint
1 part fresh or dried organic elder flowers
1 part fresh or dried organic helichrysum flowers
Organic apple cider vinegar or organic witch hazel extract

Directions
Combine all herbs in a glass jar and add witch hazel or vinegar until the liquid rises above the herbs by 2-4 inches. The herbs will swell, add additional liquid if needed.
Cover jar with wax paper (if using metal lid) and cap tightly. Store out of direct light and shake once or more per day.
After 2-6 weeks, strain your toner, and label and date your jar. This recipe should have a shelf life of about 6-9 months.
Spray on clean skin to tighten and tone!

Whole Herb vs. Standardized Herbal Supplements: Which is Best?

We often get asked about the difference between whole herbs and standardized herbal products, so we decided that an article on this topic might be helpful to the community.

In short, both can be beneficial, and many of us use them in combination. Whole herbs are broad spectrum—they contain many plant constituents and microbial diversity, which can be helpful for wellness, particularly for the health of the human gut.

Standardized herbal products allow the potency of particular constituents to be precisely dialed in to reach certain effects. Depending on your needs, standardized herbal products are an excellent way to get a pre-measured, consistent, appropriate amount of a constituent for a specific purpose. Mountain Rose Herbs now offers whole plant and standardized supplements to support a wider variety of wellness goals.

*You can find our NEW LINE OF CAPSULES in your local Eugene store!

Want to try a delicious herbal chia pudding recipe made with adaptogens like ashwagandha and maca?

On its own, chia seed pudding provides an array of ideal day-starting nutrients such as omegas, antioxidants, protein, and fiber. The hype is very well-earned in this case. Chia is most definitely a superfood. Adding maca and ashwagandha gives this recipe an extra boost of adaptogenic and energy-supporting goodness. Maca root hails from the Andes Mountains and is prized as an ally in supporting natural energy and stamina. Ashwagandha is one of the better-known and revered Ayurvedic herbs. As an adaptogen and nervine, ashwagandha is believed to promote vitality, support cognitive function, and aid in coping with stress. Ashwagandha and maca have a pleasant nutty and earthy flavor that I find delightful with cinnamon. For those looking for a more traditional pudding flavor, cacao is an excellent companion, both in herbal action and in flavor!
