The weather is warming up, which means – it’s tick season. It’s easy to forget about ticks because they are so small but it’s important to learn about methods to prevent tick bites and ways to properly remove ticks if you find one attached! Alana goes through common tick species, preventative measures you can take for yourself, gear, and pets to prevent tick bites and myth bust some false claims about tick removal!
During this talk Alana also discusses blue-green algae. Blue-green algae has been an increasing issue of concern and maybe you’ve heard the news in recent summer sabout dog and animal deaths related to this type of algae. Learn about what blue-green algae blooms are and how to identify them to keep you and and adventure friends safe when trying to cool off in lakes and rivers this summer!
Alana is an Ecological Services Program Coordinator for a local health department who coordinates water quality monitoring and vector (mosquitoes and tick) monitoring.
