Last week, Bend ambassadors Kira Marchant and Wendy Evans Wendy hosted a cross country ski to a warming hut where we enjoyed a fondue and charcuterie dinner. Everyone brought something to share. They had to postpone a week due to icy conditions and luckily were rewarded with fresh snow and a beautiful evening. So fun!!

We know we’re a little late sharing this… but hey, better late than never, right?!

Wow, 2024, what a year. Women Who Explore has grown in ways we never imagined, both as a community and a business. But what really makes this all so special? You. The incredible, supportive, adventurous women who show up, lift each other up, and prove that when women come together, magic happens.

Our ambassadors absolutely crushed it this year with 1,205 events in 2024, most of them free! And the creativity? Off the charts. We’re talking backpacking, book swaps, foodie meetups, goat yoga, stitch ‘n bitch, women’s wellness classes, whitewater rafting, volunteer work, climbing, financial workshops, and of course… hiking! If you can dream it, chances are one of our groups has done it. To every single ambassador who made this happen… you’re amazing. 🫶

And the adventures didn’t stop there. We expanded our travel trips and blew past our goal of hosting 30 trips. At this rate, 2025 better watch out, because we’re on track to surpass that goal too! We’ve continued running our signature adventures while adding exciting new destinations, and we’re committed to bringing you fresh, epic experiences year after year.

But above all, we just want to say thank you. This community is truly something special. These local events and global adventures are more than just fun, they’re life-changing. We believe with our whole hearts that empowered women in the outdoors are empowered women in life. Now more than ever, let’s keep showing up for each other, supporting each other, and proving that when women stand together, there’s nothing we can’t do.

Portland ambassador Melanie Means lead a hike to the twin summits of Silver Star Mtn today and had views for miles and miles of 8 volcanoes: Mt Hood, St Helens, Rainier, Adams, Jefferson, North, Middle and South Sister, and Goat Rocks! They finished up with a scramble to the top of Pyramid Rock. There was even a new member who just joined WWE yesterday and said it was her first ever hike… badass!

The weather is warming up, which means – it’s tick season. It’s easy to forget about ticks because they are so small but it’s important to learn about methods to prevent tick bites and ways to properly remove ticks if you find one attached! Alana goes through common tick species, preventative measures you can take for yourself, gear, and pets to prevent tick bites and myth bust some false claims about tick removal! During this talk Alana also discusses blue-green algae. Blue-green algae has been an increasing issue of concern and maybe you’ve heard the news in recent summer sabout dog and animal deaths related to this type of algae. Learn about what blue-green algae blooms are and how to identify them to keep you and and adventure friends safe when trying to cool off in lakes and rivers this summer! Alana is an Ecological Services Program Coordinator for a local health department who coordinates water quality monitoring and vector (mosquitoes and tick) monitoring.
