🌊🐊🌴The water is dropping quickly this year in the Western Everglades.

We're already just over a month into the South Florida dry season, and here's the local outlook for the rest of the dry season (December - April) released yesterday:http://weather.gov/media/mfl/news/DrySeasonOutlook_2024PublicRelease.pdf

The basis for the warmer and drier than normal outlook is the expected La NiΓ±a episode which, although likely to be rather weak and brief in duration, will play enough of a role. Other factors include trends (particularly with temperatures), and long-range model forecasts.

🌊 What a rainy season it has been!

IT'S OFFICIAL! 🌧️ Rainy season ends today and it was the wettest on record for many areas in Southwest Florida, including the city of Fort Myers, which was 21" wetter than average (data goes back to 1902). Rainfall data shown is between the official rainy season dates of May 15th to October 15th from both the National Weather Service and CoCoRaHS Network. Multiple tropical systems (Debby, Helene, Milton) plus a stronger Atlantic wind pattern this year blowing storms to our coastline are some of the reasons why it was so wet! Now "dry season" begins...

Here’s the storm surge forecast from the National Hurricane Center 5am update. Most of coastal Collier County is included in the β€˜Bonita Beach to Chokoloskee 4-7ft’ forecast. These numbers are peak surge at high tide. Be prepared!

STORM SURGE: A storm surge will raise water levels by as much as 2
to 4 feet above ground level along the northern coast of the
Yucatan Peninsula in areas of onshore winds. Near the coast, the
surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves.

The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause
normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters
moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the
following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if
the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...

Anclote River, FL to Englewood, FL...8-12 ft
Tampa Bay...8-12 ft
Yankeetown, FL to Anclote River, FL...5-10 ft
Englewood, FL to Bonita Beach, FL...5-10 ft
Charlotte Harbor...5-10 ft
Bonita Beach, FL to Chokoloskee, FL...4-7 ft
Suwannee River, FL to Yankeetown, FL...3-5 ft
