MAJOR funding secured for Florida’s future! βœ…

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1638, which directs 96% of the revenue generated EACH YEAR from the Seminole Tribe Compact for water quality improvements, new infrastructure and continued land conservation across the state.

Florida has made unprecedented investments in recent years to preserve and protect its natural resources, and this law creates a revenue stream that allows the state to double down on those efforts. Backed by this consistent, dedicated funding, we will for Florida’s environment ‼️

A tragic mystery in the Florida Keys continues with the death of at least 32 critically endangered smalltooth sawfish.

This is in addition to more than one hundred witness accounts of others seen swimming erratically, beaching themselves, and thrashing about in shallow waters from the Atlantic, to Florida Bay in the Everglades and from Key West, now all the way north to the Boynton Beach inlet, reported Louis Aguirre from Miami's Channel 10.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in partnership with Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), has launched an emergency response to investigate cause of this tragedy. According to FWC, the ongoing compilation of fish necropsy data so far showed no signs of bacterial infection or communicable pathogens. Salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature were also ruled out as the cause of fish deaths or abnormal behavior, reported Eco Watch.

While we don't know exactly why these fish are dying, we do know is there is an ongoing water quality and water management crisis in Florida and we haven't done enough to rein in the pollution that leads to water problems.

You can help by reporting sightings of healthy, sick, injured or dead sawfish to FWC’s Sawfish Hotline. Include date, time and location of the encounter, estimated length, water depth and any other relevant details. Call 1-844-4SAWFISH (1-844-472-9347) or email [email protected].

Extremely disheartening, concerning and frightening. Thank you to all who are working diligently to find the cause.

Did you know there are 32 State Forests in the Corridor? That's 84% of Florida’s State Forests! Florida's three national forests, Apalachicola National Forest, Osceola National Forest, and Ocala National Forest also fall within the Corridor.

On this International Day of Forests, we are celebrating the diverse forests across the state that provide valuable habitat for countless native species, including Florida Black Bears.

We are grateful for CCSO, the rescue teams and the huey that makes these rescues possible! Safety first 🌊🐟🐊🌴🌞! It is imperative for anyone who has a desire to explore the Everglades on their own to be well prepared. Navagation can be extremely challenging, weather conditions can change rapidly and many areas in the rivers go dry during extreme low tides. Always remember to leave a float plan with a trusted friend or family member.
