"There are strange things done in the midnight sun" begins the poet Robert Service in the cremation of Sam McGee. It is not quite unusual to find just as many, if not more, interesting ideas to keep things lively during the long winter months. For example, Nenana, 60 miles down the Parks Highway, is already known for its Tripod Ice Classic, A fund raiser that allows people to buy tickets to guess the date and time when the very large "tripod" will tip over into the fast flowing water of the Nenana River....

As of today, Fairbanks does not get darker than civil twilight until July 27th (though we still won't see "true" night here until September 4th) - midnight sun, here we come!
