Tuesday, November 11 is Veterans Day in the U.S. and Europe. Originally called Armistice Day, it began as an occasion to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in their country’s service. It falls on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. In 1954, the name of the holiday was changed from “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day” in order to recognize veterans of all wars. We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans. It’s an important day to show appreciation. The City of Fairhope celebrates its military veterans with a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 9. The parade starts at 10 a.m. from the Fairhope Civic Center, featuring local veterans’ organizations, military vehicles, as well as the Fairhope High School Band and Daphne High School ROTC.

The Baldwin Prep Academy is up-and-running for this school year! This new vocational-learning and specialized school in Loxley, AL is considered the new “future of education”. At the Preparatory Academy, rigorous learning and on-the-job experience are integrated in their state of the art building designed for career immersion. Students work in their career specific environments, and the school features classrooms configured like dental and physician clinics, a wing modeled to look like a hair and nail salon for cosmetology students, and garages for classes involving welding and automotive repair. ⏰🌷Don’t forget to “spring forward” one hour this weekend. Do you know the real reason for Daylight Savings Time? It’s complicated! But one of the main reasons DST was adopted was to create a way to save energy 💡and to get more use out of our natural daylight. Invented in Germany in 1916, since March 1918, there have been many updates and changes to the idea and 📜 laws passed, repealed, passed again, repealed again—you get the picture. 🏅⭐️The premier edition of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation’s Historic Building Plaques brochure is now available! 🤩The brochure displays a Downtown Self-Guided Walking Tour Map that visitors and residents can use to discover Fairhope’s historic buildings. 🏰These historic buildings all feature a FSTC plaque with a QR code that can be scanned to learn the building’s history 📖 and its relationship to today. The Summit Street Inn is proud to be included along with 19 other traditional and eclectic Fairhope buildings! The 20-building walking tour should take around an hour-and-a-half and includes our original one-room public library, 🏦the Greek Revival-influenced Bank of Fairhope, and not one, ☝️ but two castles 🏰.
