Happy , everyone! Meet this week's feature, Carrie Hriblan!🎊

Carrie is originally from Lewisburg, WV and graduated with a M.Ed. Specializing in Special Education. She currently resides in Morgantown, WV and works as a Recruitment Coordinator for KVC WV Service Coordinator. 🎓

❓What do your responsibilities entail?

💬As a KVC employer I have been responsible for setting up interviews and fulfilling referrals of students, aged 16+ in foster care who are interested in obtaining a Marion County High School diploma and an associate’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. During this role I will provide opportunities for community and campus involvement and participation, through inter-mural sports to competing on robotics teams to working with community groups. I will work with the students to make goals and learn new ways to meet those goals. I will plan interesting and engaging activities and help the students maintain passing grades in their high school courses and college courses. I will also be working toward obtaining grant funding to provide opportunities for community service

❓How did your Fairmont State education prepare you for this role?

💬Fairmont offered the academic program that was the next step to my successful life I wanted to build for myself. The program also offered me the availability with my schedule because I was working full-time. Aside from working full-time I spent the rest of my time dedicating myself to achieving this dream. I was in foster care as a child so the KVC, Fairmont State partnership Middle College program felt like a passionate way for me to feel connected to my roots and mentor students as they grow in their academic success.

❓How did receiving a college education improve your life?

💬Receiving an education has helped me feel empowered to support myself, improve my self-esteem, and maintain my independence. Receiving my M.Ed. has improved my life drastically. I never imagined I would have obtained my master’s degree, but I am so proud that I did. I can support my children by being able to afford new baseball cleats, running shoes for Girls on the Run, or even purchase a Girl Scout sash. My children can participate in extra-curricular activities and build their self-esteem. I can also afford birthday and Christmas presents and do not have to worry about money to buy groceries or not being able to afford gas for my car. My college education and master’s degree have cemented my success and stability. Even though college was challenging with being away from family and time management I am happy I was able to maintain my self-control and dedication to finish out both degrees. I may continue with obtaining my doctorate degree but I am unsure of what I want to study.

Kayla is originally from Shinnston, WV and graduated with a BS In Psychology with a minor in Business. She also graduated Cum Laude and as a member of the PFSU Honors Program. She currently resides in Morgantown, WV and works as the Owner and Clinical Therapist at Montani Mental Health LLC in Morgantown, WV. She also serves as the Chair of Postpartum Support International-WV Chapter.🎓

❓What do your responsibilities entail?

💬I own and operate a mental health therapy practice, servicing West Virginia and Pennsylvania with in-person and telehealth individual therapy services. In addition to my supervisory roles, I also provide therapy services to a small caseload of clients, specializing in the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

❓How did your Fairmont State education prepare you for this role?

💬My degree in psychology prepared me to enter my master's program with a strong understanding of the different therapy theories that I would be applying as a professional. My minor in business was a part of my dream of owning my own practice, which became a reality in 2018.

❓How did receiving a college education improve your life?

💬I was the first in my family to obtain a bachelor's degree, which made me feel more confident in pursuing a master's degree to make my career aspirations a reality.

David is originally from Terra Alta, WV and graduated with a Major in Communication Arts and a Minor in Journalism in 2020. He currently resides right here in Fairmont and works as the Marketing & Communication Manager for the City of Fairmont.🎓

❓What do your responsibilities entail?

💬As the liaison for all press interactions with City representatives, I manage all marketing materials, social media content, and serve as the designated webmaster and Public Information Officer for the City.

❓How did your Fairmont State education prepare you for this role?

💬The skill I learned that has been paramount in my professional success has been relationship building. My position with the City hinges on the strength of my relationships with community members and peers around the state. The Communications degree set me up for success and trained me to understand the minutiae of social interactions.

❓How did receiving a college education improve your life?

💬Without a degree, it’d be impossible to do what I currently do. My time at Fairmont State shaped me into the person I am today. Working in such a tight-knit community like Fairmont, it’s almost a badge of authenticity when I tell locals that my alma mater is Fairmont State University.
