Thought we needed to give Elk Creek Den (ECD) some love and attention today!

Located in Como, Colorado, ECD offers a blend of rural life paired with gorgeous mountain views and sunrises that’ll make you want to wake up early enough to take it all in. 🌄

You can expect to have daily visitors that include free range cows and packs of deer that are very comfortable peeking in the cabin windows. 🦌🐮

Our cabin is 3-bedrooms and 3-bathrooms to fit 6 people total. It is perfect for families, couples, friend groups, and yes.. dogs!! We pride ourselves on being dog friendly and love our furry guests whom we like to call our . 🐶

The cabin is located on 2-plus acres and there is loads of room for kids and dogs to run around and search for treasures! 🧭🗺️

The open concept inside allows your group to spread out comfortably. There is a bonus loft area upstairs with a second TV along with foosball and games! A perfect place for kiddos and family game nights! 🎲♟️

Starlink internet allows for working remotely and steaming your favorite shows! 📺

Our outdoor space has a propane firepit and grill. We’ll soon be putting out our s’mores kits for summer guests! 🔥🍫

Why does instagram still only allow 10 photos at a time?!

When Frankie from asked me what I was hoping for from his photography, I said I wanted him to capture the “experience” guests can have while staying at woody creek den.

Well I’d say he nailed it! These photos bring me so much joy not only because of their quality and beauty, but because they really give the feeling one can have while staying with friends and family at .bdens.

My former coworker and dear friend sent this picture to me recently. I was working full time as a director at an early childhood center that was a nonprofit serving children with autism alongside preschoolers without special needs. I continued to work there after having my daughter and resigned just over 2 years ago. I absolutely loved that time of my life.

When I decided to change chapters I was very nervous as I lived for the daily collaboration and passion I shared with my coworkers, the responsibilities I had, and the impact I felt I was making.

BUT for the sake of my family, we had to make a shift
to allow for more flexibility with our young kiddos and my husbands job.

Entering the short term rental world has been extremely rewarding in an entirely new way. There are things I still miss whole heartedly from my last job, but in return I’ve gotten:

Time and flexibility. This has been extremely fortunate to gain with our young kiddos.

Financial contribution. While my nonprofit career didn’t bring in the big bucks, I’ve always cared about having my own income and contributing!

New learning, growth, and skill set. Some of my old career skills have transferred over, but I’ve learned a whole lot of new things I never would’ve imagined 2 years ago.

Collaboration and new friends! It’s still different than sharing a tiny office daily with coworkers, but I’ve gained a whole lot of friends through hosting that are willing to mentor, support, give advice, and laugh with. Now the goal is to meet more of them in person!

Risk taking. I’ve put myself out there more in this career than any other time in my life, especially with this instagram marketing gig. If you don’t think I have daily talks with myself on “wtf” are you doing, or “people aren’t going to care about this,” or post a story and take it down bc im too embarrassed, you’re wrong. I absolutely am faking it till I make it (or don’t make it lol). BUT I’m taking risks and at the end of the day, no matter how silly I feel, I’m proud of that.

I continue to learn, have ups and downs, miss my old job, but it’s all part of the journey and overall I’m having a lot of fun!

This weekend my family stayed at , and it really solidified my love of short term rentals.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a hotel. It really just depends on reason for travel, where we’re going, and who’s coming.

For our family getaway this past weekend with two young kids and two dogs, our little cabin was perfect and here’s why:

Space! Not on top of each other the way we’d be in a hotel.

Mom and dad can have a beverage and watch a movie in the living room peacefully after the kids go to bed!

Cooking at home. After a big day of adventure Saturday, my kids were tried and cranky. We decided instead of going out to eat, we’d just grab something easy from the store. Our night was way more enjoyable than it would’ve been!

Letting the dogs right outside in the backyard. No elevators and chaotic dog behavior in the hotel lobby!

Early morning risers can do their thing while sleepers can get a few extra minutes of rest!

Oh and the sauna at allowed my husband and I to take turns getting some self care/solo time. Big bonus!

Anyway…. A wonderful weekend it was, and I hope .bdens make our guests feel the same ease and comforts we felt this past weekend!

Dreaming of sunsets, green trees, warmer temps, and
no more well pump and septic issues! I’m a little over winter, even though we still have awhile left. BRING ON SUMMER!

Not going to lie.. I’ve had more cabin issues at both places the past month than my entire two years of hosting. 😰😰 Well pump shenanigans, frozen pipes glory, beeping alarms and radiator goodness…you name it! It’s been stressful and expensive and all the things and sometimes makes me go…. Is this worth it?!?

My cabins are in rural places and it’s not necessarily easy to just get someone over right away! Thankfully I have found some absolute gem of humans in FairPlay that have saved the day. Most of them aren’t on instagram to give credit to, but I’m very grateful for the small town community that is willing to help or point you in the right direction with issues that are over my head.

But amid the stress, I’ll start scrolling through my phone and find pictures like these of the cabins, take a breath, and remember there is way more good than bad. As my hosting friends keeps remind me - “this too shall pass.”

I was a director of a school during Covid, so let me tell you how much my patience and resilience was tested during that time. 🫣 I think it gave me the ability to know how to handle situation like I’ve had lately though.. with the most important priority being taking care of the guests and doing what I need to make it right and keep their experience positive (thankfully I’ve had incredibly kind and patient guests throughout this saga of late).

Anywho, here’s to good vibes, deep breaths, and running water. 😂💧

knocked it out of the park!! Im shocked at the level of detail and how accurate everything is.

Here’s Mochi and Matsu’s reminder from that .bdens are dog-friendly cabins! 🐶🐾

I get asked all the time if being dog friendly is difficult or has caused damage. By and large, the answer is no!

Don’t get me wrong, there’s been a time or two I’ve questioned if it’s the right decision for the sake of my cabins long term, but overall I stand by dog owners being incredibly respectful! 🐕🦴

Also we’re in the Colorado mountains. Who doesn’t want to go on adventures with their pooch?!? 🏔️🚤

At our cabins we provide:

🐾 2 dog beds

🐾 Dog bowls

🐾 Light up collars for night!

🐾 Dog towels and blankets. We ask our guests to keep dogs off the furniture and linens, but we’re also realistic so ask to at minimum use the blankets!

🐾 Dog treats

🐾 Sacks to pick up 💩

🐾 Two acres on our properties to roam around, along with great deer, cow, and moose viewing (safely indoors of course)!!! 🦌🐄

So take Mochi and Matsu’s advice, and book a stay at .bdens for your pooch.. I mean you. 😉

One thing we love about Elk Creek Den is the loft area upstairs!

Not only is there a 3rd bedroom and bathroom, but a whole extra room for game playing, movie watching, and a work (if you must). 👩🏾‍💻🃏🍿

When my husband and I stay at ECD, we love having the space to send our kiddos up there when we want to watch a football game or non-Disney movie! 🎬🏈

We adore the custom ECD light we got from 💡

Hello! We got a bunch of new faces the past couple weeks. 👋

We’re thrilled you’re here! 🎉

Here are 10 facts to get to know me, Brooke, and my crew: 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

1️⃣: Lets start things with a bang! We got a “retired” breeding lab in May bc we didn’t want a puppy. Well she wasn’t so retired. 🤰

She was very pregnant and ended up having 8 puppies in our home! They all went home to our family and friends.. including us keeping 1. Meet Poppy and Rowdy! 🐶🐶

2️⃣: Before I got into this world I was in early childhood special education. 🎒🖍️ I worked as a director of a very special early childhood center for many years, and resigned to be home with my family more in Feb 2021 (Annie is 2.5 and Simon is 5).

3️⃣: I’ve been with my husband since I was 18. Let’s say we’re a lot older now 👵🏼👴🏼. We’ll be celebrating our 10-year anniversary in October!

4️⃣. I lived in Japan for two years in elementary school and then all of high school. 🇯🇵 Let’s just say that inspired a lot of my travel passion. 🍣🧳

5️⃣. I’m way more of an introvert than extrovert. 🫣 Home body alert here 🙋🏼‍♀️(except when we get away every once in awhile and find boutique, intimate rentals or hotels).

6️⃣I am obsessed with fall. 🍂🍁 I literally can’t wait for the season that requires candles, blankets, and football watching. At home. 🕯️🎃🏈

7️⃣. The place that truly inspired me to get into this world was a small bnb in Taos. From the fresh pastries, the decor, the cozy beds, the soaps, the chickens, the host…it was truly special. I like to keep it a secret 🤫,

Heart full after a weekend filled with making memories at Elk Creek Den and in the town of FairPlay with our family. 🫶🏼

Delicious meals were cooked 🥘, lengthy chats around the firepit were had🔥, and lots of kid adventures around the property searching for critters and treasures. 🐞🐛

Showing off the town of Fairplay was a bonus and major honor. B***o days was a HUGE hit, and I 💯 recommend it! 🐴

We can’t wait to keep hosting others, and also can’t wait for our next trip up! 🧳
