We are pumped for the upcoming fall season! In the town of Fairplay/South Park, there are so many businesses that have recently opened and some who, have been there for generations. There have festivals, live bands and so much that you can't imagine. Highway 285 has completed a large section of the bridge/infrastructure and there are beautiful homes for sale in the area that are actually not so out of the ballpark as you might imagine. The water is natural Rocky Mountain alkalized and from aquifers deep into the earth.
Our place in particular was hit by a horrible storm and insurance, did not cover it. So, we were forced to repair and renovate on a recourse loan (those suck!) and while we love this place so much, it is time to look at multi-family investing. Our plan to develop this land is on pause, until we have the right opportunity to provide the nearby community an opportunity to reside in affordable housing. It is one of our C Goals. It will happen in time.

The family has been keeping Clyde’s medical status private. I just got off the phone with him & he said, “Tell anyone you want as the public should know that I will not give up no matter what. Even if I have to have 1,000 of them to survive.”
He’ having a lung procedure done this week and that’ll be his 6th since Vegas. 😞 This is his next attempt to survive. He has, “salt water in his lungs.” He further had me take notes and explained his specific loose ends…

His medical bills are in the millions folks. He’s had to dip into reserves to keep that going and to take care of his family. He has not worked or had steady revenue from his business efforts in nearly 8 months. If there is anything you can do, please donate to assist to relieve pressure. We need positive vibes and community for him. So big him! If you have his number, do not hesitate to call, text and send your love. Life is too short and he’s been through so much in the last year, but his life is a legacy. Don’t wait… Just to listen to his stories of all his experiences is a treasure.

We can't stress enough the point of checking prior to embarking on any vacation, ski/snowboard or winter trip due to Covid19 guidelines. Please check each website of the facilities and/or areas you wish to visit. We are hearing reservations and different processes than pre-pandemic.

Here are some activity recommendations during this winter season:

Town of Breckenridge (cross country skiing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, Ice skating, restaurants, bars, shopping, emergency clinic, oxygen bar and more).

Summit County (google professional sled hills for kids)
*our sled hill and all areas of the cabin are at your own risk*

Keystone (winter sports as noted above, sledding, emergency clinic, Towns of Dillon & Silverthorne)

Town of Frisco (24 hr large hospital, shopping, restaurants, bars)

Dillon & Silverthorne - Restaurants, outlets, emergency clinics, grocery store, liquor stores, ski /board apparel shops.

Town of Fairplay (grocery store, hardware store, winery, bars, brewery, restaurants, small motels, Dogworks, recreational ma*****na, post office, fire station, small shops)

Town of Alma (recreational ma*****na shops, Saloon Restaurant, other small shops, Al-Mart Store & Souvenir shop (less expensive than Breck - same products lol)

All Seasons Adventures (snowmobiling at Cottonwood &/or Marshall pass) Buena Vista - Chafee County (near FP)

Visitors & guests, please educate yourself on the process of the mountain. You don't want to arrive and not be able to do what you're used to or what, "was" expected. That said, I've posted the link below to Epic Pass. Depending on what pass you have and what resort you visit, please see what the requirements and guidelines are. We know there are, "reservations," needed, so I'm interested to see how this plays out.

As for Winter activities in and around area, I'll create a separate posting for that.

Yes! This year has been one to document for sure. We saw bookings prior to the quarantine as we normally did in the summer. Due to the lockdown, Cabin del Sol decided to refund 100% of its reservations to their guests, who couldn't make their flights, leave their homes or even drive to our state in a vehicle. The future at that time was a bit gray.
The STRM was in complete disarray, panic and uncertainty. How many of hosts remember this CEO's video he made in his home and you could just feel his stress, worry and anxiety? It's pretty scary to see a confident guy, who looked like he had a nervous breakdown the night prior. I can say, we never heard from the VRBO CEO like that!
This feeling caused some homeowners to bail on their properties as they had no other recourse. The domino effect of the brick and mortar businesses crumbling, who also relied on the STRM for a large % of their revenue. Their entire life's work in the, "dark hole," and the only option was to retire and close their doors after being open for 20+ years. How do you think they feel right about now? What some of the public doesn't realize, is this is someone's full-time or one of their part-time gigs, that adds to their full-time hours! You're looking at one of them. Scary was not the word. It was a freak show and I swear, it was like floating through a nightmare over the course of the next five months. I won't go into detail here.
Many of us had the opportunity to stand by and weather the storm. Cabin del Sol thankfully, was one of them. We took a step back and decided that this place was sacred and we had to retain every bit of it as it's our special sanctuary of peace, happiness and the pure, raw and organic wilderness. The innocence of a baby moose, who stands near his mama while she looks on protecting him, a fox, searching for the slowest chipmunk as his am snack (sorry vegans/animal lovers) and the big bear, who comes out when smells applewood smoked bacon in the air (google Fairplay bear, who loves bacon - it's true)... This is nature and what Colorado is based on. Just these enormous mountains that make you think, "how fricken cool." Endless hiking and beautiful people that welcome you to our state.
I am grateful that Airbnb and VRBO took a step back to reorganize their staff, system and how they operate. Due to the algorithms in place, we have noticed requests & the first question is, "how secluded are you?" We are completely, "sandwiched" by our own land on both sides :)
Definitely seeing a lot of traction as we've been booked in the slowest season of the year. I am thankful, grateful and just going to ride this train for as long as we possibly can.
Another key factor we noticed is this. 98% of guests are more respectful than ever before. They leave the place clean, don't damage items and take the time to give us these wonderful 5 star reviews. So, thank you and we welcome you back any time. The youngsters that were once disrespectful, are not or they kindly move on to the next property instead of pushing to stay in family homes.
Cabin del Sol sits on a hill, overlooking the deep, dense forest of trees, rocks, boulders, sweet animals and the crisp air that only belongs only to the Rockies. Coloradans know what I am referring to. It has a scent like no other. Kind of like how a Plumeria has its own beauty.

Our Story

Secluded, modern rustic log cabin, essentially a 2,772 square foot house, gorgeously furnished with all amenities of a home at 11,200 ft elevation. Beautiful views w/a wrap around deck overlooking 7.25 forested acres of private property and the Colorado Rockies. On-site hiking/snowshoe trails, picnic grounds & areas to explore. 25-30 mins to/from Breckenridge and 50 mins to/from Keystone. Close to prime fishing spots, 14er Mountain trails, ATV tours, snowmobiling, horseback riding, stores, bars, winery, brewery, distillery, restaurants and summer/snow season locations. Enjoy breathtaking views on the deck while sipping on some cocktails & barbecuing with the fam!

My husband and I always dreamed (independently since we were kids) of having an “A” frame house and this treasure comes pretty close. The logo was created to be Mike as the “Moon,” Kim as the “Sun lady,” in love with her Mahina (Moon) and the stars represent our children as well as the typical review we receive from guests. We are a family with native roots from Hawaii and have blessed our cabin with the "Aloha" Spirit since 2015. We are two full-time working parents that run this as a business & a second home to entertain family, friends and as a retreat away from the city and stress. Our large extended family/friends list (Ohana) love to spend time away from the hustle & bustle at our retreat. As soon as you hit Highway 285, you can feel the tension leaving your body! The view of the Continental Divide is breathtaking as you enter South Park. Yes, where the animated series was created by two of Fairplay’s high school students. There’s a gift shop for all the memorabilia/swag as well!

The local people are wonderful in Fairplay and Alma. You’ll find everything you need (groceries, hardware, beer, green stores, liquor, wine, take out, dine in, supplies and gifts for others back home). The artisan community will welcome you with spirit that reminds us of the old small town Hawaii.

The property is surrounded by 7.25 acres of heavily forested land that include wild animals (e.g. white mule deer, elk, bears, moose, chipmunks, foxes, squirrels, large rabbits and an occasional mountain lion-that we’ve not seen) and the nearest neighbor is about a 1/2 mile from the home. There are three spacious living rooms, 1-dining room, 1-island, 1-large kitchen, tons of patio furniture for large groups, 4-TVs, 4-bedrooms, 8-beds, 3-full bathrooms, a deck to enjoy during the warmer months and a lot of miles between you and the public. It’s a nice local getaway or a distant destination vacation. It’s a home where you and your family/friends can build lifelong memories.
