My loss is your gain!!
Yep, I'm supposed to be elk hunting right now. The trip didn't work out this year and I didn't book a thing... Next Tuesday through Saturday are WIDE OPEN.

We chased some steelhead first thing this morning around the creeks, but that was unproductive. From there we checked on some walleye and found what I was hoping for tomorrow morning's guests. Let me know if you want to get out. I'm going to bug you all for a bit. The fish are on the move, get hold of me before the fish are GONE.

September smackfest!
Hard to imagine, but, the amazing fishing continues!

Weā€™ve been counting the days until the walleye migration west slows the fishing, but they are still here! Last year it was still rocking in October, and it might do that again. I still have some days available, letā€™s get after them!

This morning was a return to the hot spot that we found yesterday and luckily the fish were still there and extremely cooperative. One big fish after another were chomping our worm harnesses. It was all we could do to keep the rods in the water yet again. My guests today had the biggest 12 fish box of the season back in June and man they brought the good luck back with them again. What a day on a beautiful lake!

Gear thoughtsā€¦
Iā€™m still rocking my butterfly blades, but Iā€™ve also started working some Mike's Walleye Rigs blades into the mix. #4 Colorado blades have been working awesome in a variety of colors. More to follow on those!
In-line weights, dipseys and even bottom bouncers were doing work today. Be on the lookout for more info about all my setups as fall approaches.

When a couple charter captains have guests scheduled for the morning and the lake has been angry for a few daysā€¦ Lane Brown and I went hunting for them.

First stop that was hot last Thursday was an empty screen today, next stop, BINGO!
I drove past to get set up on the upwind side of the motherload that I had on the huminbirds, and we had just enough time to get some rods set until the beat down commenced. We fished for about 45 minutes, and we had all the info we needed for the morning, and a limit of really nice fish.

Believe it or not, Iā€™m still running the same worm program that I outlined at the fishusa walleye palooza this spring.
Depths change, leads change, but this is a foolproof way to load the boat.
Back at it in the am.

Double day Tuesday!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of starting the day with some returning guests and wrapping up with some newbies.

The conditions were a little choppy on the ride out in the morning. A longer than planned ride to the stomping grounds was rewarded with some crazy fat fishing, big fish and one chrome jumpy fish in no time at all.
I had the benefit of the morning and hit that exact water later that morning and it was a repeat of the same.
The fishing is still out of hand! I didnā€™t even have a second for photos!
Absolutely love this lake! Time is running short if youā€™d like to fill the freezer. I have some September dates available starting next week.

Yesterday was some Fry-day fun!
Repeat guest and frequent flyer brought his queen along yesterday. We were in fish right out of the gate and had solid walleye mixed with a small number of farm animals heading for the net in short order.

It wasnā€™t long and the crew and I filled their limits and my lunch order.
Fresh walleye for lunch is a pretty solid side benefit of this fishing gig.
Thanks guys, see you soon!

Had a few days off, then it was back at it Wednesday.
These fellas fish with me pretty often, and itā€™s always a pleasure, but today was express special. We celebrated 78 trips around the sun for my guest of honor, and wouldnā€™t you know the fish favored that same special someone.

The fishing where I started west was slower than I would have liked, but the further east I made it, the better it got, and it wasnā€™t long until we were in fire drill mode.
Still pulling worms, and still rocking and rolling.

P.S. these guys clean their own fish and I always forget to take pictures with them. Thanks for hunting me this time fellas!

Last week catch up.
Friday double day two.

What a beautiful day we had Friday. The morning fishing was a solid reminder of the amazing fishing we have here, but still a little slower than weā€™ve been used to.
The afternoon started slower than expected and we found the motherload of sheephead. Great for the kiddos to fight some monsters, but less great for filling the livewell.
We ground it out, and man were we rewarded. What an absolute bucket load of fish we ended up with.

Today was a double duty day!
After the stretch of windy weather weā€™ve had, it was awesome to get back on the water. Tracking down a good bite was the mission, I hit some familiar ground and had a slow bite followed by a white perch bonanza. We pulled our gear and made an adjustment. Humminbird lead the way and the motherload was located. We finished the morning in style and it lead me to an awesome bite right away this afternoon.
Some piggies hit the ice this afternoon as well.
My afternoon crew was a couple fellas that were new to boating and first timers on the walleye grounds.
Oh, what an introduction they had. The first fish to hit the net was 25 inches and they kept coming.
What a great batch of fillets headed south today,

What an awesome day!
Back at it tomorrow! If you arenā€™t booked yet I only have a few more trips available before we wrap up for the season. Letā€™s get out there!

Sunday morning stretch!

I try to spend Sundays with the family, but sometimes it's necessary to spend the day with friends instead.
Shaky forecasts pushed us to separate these three trips to three days, and luckily, the fish stayed right where I found them last week. My duo of the day and I did donuts on a small area for the morning to avoid the swells and the small spot just kept producing great fish. Every time through the area we loaded up on fish, when we got into smaller fish we just turned around and did it again.

We're still hanging around 70 FOW and burning worms with the best of them. Great bite and great sized fish continue to amaze myself and guests. I can't wait to see what the rest of the month holds. Let's get out there!

Saturday morning was a 7am launch and started as a ā€œroad tripā€ following on some intel I received. Ultimately we headed back to my happy place on the west side of town.
Our return to the stomping grounds in the high 60s and Low 70s were rewarded with walleye pandemonium. A south to north slow troll with harnesses and shallow jr thundersticks in chrome kept us busy in a hurry! The first six fish hit the live well in 15 minutes and the remainder were shortly behind.
No What a crazy morning and what a great batch of fish!
I donā€™t think the fishing can get any better than this!
Letā€™s go catching!

Thursday and Friday were almost opposites. On Thursday I headed for the fish Iā€™ve been on for a little while and they were mostly MIA. I had a great looking bunch of fish on the screenā€¦
We worked at bit more than ā€œnormalā€ to put together a box of 18 great eaters for my guys, but if you know my brain gremlin, I was trying to find the ā€œbigger, better, fasterā€ version of the day. These guys clean their own fish and you know I forgot to take a cooler pic. šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Friday was another story, I returned to some of my stomping grounds from earlier in the season and graphed until I had a ā€œhappy screenā€ again, but this time it was game on. The walleye were flying, the size I was hoping for was back and we capitalized on the opportunity. Two more days of repeat guests canā€™t be beat. It was awesome to catch up! Enjoy the fillets everybody!

After we had weather cancellations twice last season it was my pleasure to get these guys on the water on the first try this season.
They may have had to wait until their next visit to the area to make it happen, but it was worth it! The fishing remains crazy!
The lake couldn't have been nicer and the fish were still chomping.
My little guy fished like he was twice his age, landing numerous walleye and one 28 inch monster on his own. His fishing future is bright for sure!

68-75 FOW was the target, and suspended fish 40-50 feet down were the goal. More Jr Thundersticks and worms loaded the boat on riggers and dipseys. The good ole inline weights are still plugging away also. anywhere from 75-120 feet of line out on those and my speed is still 1.3-1.7.

Taking a couple days to catch up on some other projects and avoid some storms, but back at it later in the week.

Birthday week finale
Yesterday put the lid on another fantastic birthday week on the water and what a week it was. Gross weight and speed of boat filling were both impressive measures this week.

I'm incorporating some more shallow stick baits these days to avoid the sub legal fishing that are making their way to the area, but yesterday it didn't seem to matter. Shallow Jr Thundersticks and worms have been the primary offering here and they have both helped to send many pounds of fillets home. Targeting suspended fish has been classic. I've been using dipseys, inline weights (3oz), bottom bouncers and riggers to make sure I'm dialing in the depth, and baits have been mixed. Colors are leaning toward chomes lately with chartreuse also producing. Get your stuff to the right depth and they'll eat :D We still focused on 65-75 FOW and just stayed on the biters when we found them.

The celebration continued into the morning yesterday with my repeat guests were treated to some of the heaviest and fastest fishing we've had all season. I was also treated to a very portable cake :D.
It was definitely a "Fish On" kind of morning. We barely had time to take any photos trying to keep the rods running with all the big fish that were hitting the net.

The second crew were able to join me a little early after we had such a fast morning and we headed right back to where I finished the morning and by grace the fish were still hungry. The number of 20"+ fish in the area has been awesome, and we were able to stack the boat in no time. The key to the later bite was George Straight pumping through the speakers and worms doing most of the work on the rods.

It was truly and awesome day, we were all lucky to have had a string of days with fishing this good. With July coming to a close I'm taking a couple days to focus on some other projects then I'm back on the water later this week. See you soon!

Catch up from Last week.

We were on the meat!! Most of the week last week we were on some amazing fishing... Yeah, I get it, it's Lake Erie, but it was exceptional.

Quick update from my repeat guests. Some things are just meant to be. Unfortunate events delayed this trip and an unexpected opening made it possible on a Monday morning... Who would have guessed it would also be dead calm with crazy good fishing.

It's hard to imagine all the pieces that fell into place to make this happen. Quote of the day from my guest "That's just how God works thing out for me."
Well, I certainly couldn't deny it.

Goal of the day was to catch walleye for the freezer, and if we could also find steelhead that would be AWESOME.
We deployed a steelhead focused spread knowing that the hungry green fish would also be interested. We were piling on the green fish when my 40' rigger freaked out and it was steelhead ON!! A short tussle and we realized our goal.

A super buggy lake and a livewell stuffed with wallygators (and one chromer) sent us south bound. Great day amazing company and if were on the boat this week you know there is more to the amazing story.
