CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY!
Join us as we celebrate pioneers who paved the way for mobility, freedom, and progress!

Today we honor the legacy of Safe Bus Company, trailblazers who forged the path in transportation!
Born out of necessity, the Safe Bus Company proudly served the underserved Black neighborhoods of Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 1926 to 1972. Founded by 21 Black jitney operators who sought to provide safe, reliable transportation, Safe Bus was born during segregation when the city’s trolley system, Southern Public Utilities Company, did not service predominantly Black areas.
In an era where the city’s residents were left with a scattered, unorganized transportation system, Safe Bus made history by uniting those 21 jitney drivers and forming a fleet of 35 buses. Led by Harvey F. Morgan, Safe Bus quickly grew, providing transportation to thousands of passengers daily. It became the largest African-American-owned transportation company in the world, carrying more than 8,000 passengers each day.
By 1968, when Winston-Salem’s contracted bus carrier departed, Safe Bus stepped in to serve ALL residents, cementing its place in the city's history. As Cassandra Greene Miller, daughter of Safe Bus President Buster Greene, once said, “Many people say that segregation gave birth to Safe Bus and integration ended it.”

We honor the groundbreaking legacy of Safe Bus and those who made it possible—forever a symbol of resilience, community, and progress.

We appreciate the Maintenance Director Mr. Robinson for his dedication to detail and earl mornings and late nights. As we enter our 40th year of service, we will continue bringing you the latest in technology, safety, service and satisfaction.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who inspired the world with his vision of equality, justice, and unity. His tireless commitment to civil rights reminds us that progress is driven by courage, compassion, and a shared journey toward a better future.

Let’s reflect on his words today and every day: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

Atlanta's profound Civil Rights History has captivated our international partners today as they tour the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. As they conclude their time in Atlanta and proceed along the Civil Rights Trail, today's experience has served as a poignant introduction to the history of a pivotal African American leader in the movement Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. . We acknowledge Douglas Reese's forthcoming contribution, sharing his expertise on the history of Selma, Alabama. Many partners have requested his involvement as a Motorcoach operator for Civil Rights tours, valuing his comprehensive knowledge and personal experience in navigating the trail. We thank Douglas for his dedication to ensuring an exceptional experience for our visitors.
