Yesterday's answer is Hiram Rhodes Revels! Comment to let us know if you got it right. 👇⬇️

Revels paved a way for countless Americans by overcoming severe challenges—including debates over his citizenship due to the Dred Scott decision and pre-Fourteenth Amendment laws, despite being born a free man.

After three days of discourse, the Fayetteville native was finally admitted to the Senate as the first African American Senator in 1870 for Mississippi. Afterwards, Revels served as Mississippi secretary of state in 1873, as president of Alcorn Agricultural College from 1876 to 1882, and finally, he inspired masses as an ordained minister until his passing in 1901.

Revels championed education for black Americans, spoke out against segregation, and combated efforts to undermine the rights of African Americans. 📍 Look for Revel's historical marker at the intersection of Murchison Road (State Highway 210) and Blue Street, and tag us to be featured on our story.
