Elmo was given a key to the city
During a visit to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in 2010, Elmo was given the key to the city by then-Mayor Dave Bing. Detroit is the only city to have awarded Elmo a key to the city.

A street sweeper had two babies fall on his head
In 1937, a street sweeper named Joseph Figlock was struck on the head by a baby falling out of a fourth-floor window. Both he and the baby survived. One year later, a 2-year-old fell on his head. Again, both Figlock and the child emerged unscathed.

A tiger got loose at the Packard Plant
In 2015, a British wildlife photographer rented the Packard Plant for a photoshoot. Without clearing it with the project manager of the Packard Plant Project, he arrived with a tiger, two wolves, and a bobcat. Unfortunately, the tiger escaped and hid in a staircase. It was eventually captured by trainers, but not before wandering the plant.

Metallica played a surprise concert on Belle Isle
While Belle Isle is usually a haven of quiet solitude away from the bustle of the city, it was once the site of a heavy metal concert. In 2013, Metallica played a surprise show on Belle Isle during the Orion Music + More Festival.

What an incredible day for an adventure in Detroit! The sun was shinning and spirits were high as our full bus was ready to explore the wonders of Detroit. Our first stop: Slow's BBQ, a true Detroit institution known for its mouthwatering slow-cooked meats and signature sauces. Then, they enjoyed a scenic drive along the revitalized Detroit Riverfront. But the highlight of our day was undoubtedly the extensive tour of the iconic Michigan Central Station. This architectural gem, once a symbol of Detroit's golden age, has undergone an awe-inspiring restoration. As we wandered through, the guide regaled us with fascinating stories of the stations rich history and it's exciting future as a hub for innovation and community. With each step we could feel the pulse of Detroit’s resilient spirit and a promise of a bright Detroit! Unforgettable memories and friends were made today by all!
