Glacier Point Road will be open weekends only starting July 1. The road will be open:
-July 1 from 6 am through July 4 at 10 pm
-July 8 from 6 am through July 9 at 10 pm

Glacier Point Road will open seven days per week, 24 hours per day, starting July 15 at 6 am. Expect 30-minute delays, Monday through Friday, 6 am to 9 pm.

Parking at Glacier Point and throughout the park is limited. Arrive early in the morning to avoid long delays and full parking lots.

Services may be limited. Vault toilets will be available this weekend. Drinking water may not be available this weekend: be prepared with plenty of water.

Sections of trails in the Glacier Point Road area will still be wet and muddy, with snow persisting at the higher elevations (e.g., Ostrander Lake). If you want to go backpacking, wilderness permits are now available one week in advance (not the day before, as in the past). Visit https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wpres.htm for more information or go to https://www.recreation.gov/permits/445859 to make a reservation.

Tioga Road (continuation of Highway 120 through the park) will not be open for the Independence Day holiday.

06/30/2023

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that parking lots will fill early, that the forecast includes a Heat Advisory, and that the river currents have been strong and cold.

We at Yosemite Conservancy wish everyone a Happy Independence Day Weekend. If you are planning on coming to the park these recommendations will help promote happiness for you and your fellow travelers:

✔️ Sign up for Yosemite National Park’s traffic alerts. Text YNPTraffic to 333111. These alerts will tell you when parking lots fill (which has been around 9 am on weekdays).

✔️ Make back up plans for other areas of the park or in the gateway communities in case you receive an alert on your way to the park.

✔️ Be prepared for heat. Pack lots of water and snacks and sun protection. And then pack some back up water and snacks.

✔️ If possible, bring a good sense of humor and kindness. Many people are headed to Yosemite, excited and enthusiastic. Please be respectful of each other, the plants, the wildlife, and park staff.

✔️ Stay away from the river: Water levels are expected to rise again this weekend because of warmer temperatures. With the high water this year, it is not recommended to approach the river.

✔️ Always be careful with campfires. Yosemite National Park declared fire season starting June 26, 2023 due to hotter and drier weather conditions. Make sure to follow all fire rules and regulations when recreating and help prevent human caused wildfires by making sure your campfire is out cold when you leave by using the “drown, stir, and feel method.”

🌲🏞️ Yosemite is Open! 🌲🏞️

This isn't new news - but we're addressing what is right now a truly an FAQ. We can understand why this is with the many recent closed areas and accompanying notices on the park's webpage. So it seems that clarifying this is a good thing right now.

But we do have some new important updates to share as well!

1️⃣ The Mariposa Grove Road will reopen this Friday at 9am. However, the Grove Shuttle will remain out of service until later in June. Please note that only vehicles displaying a disability placard, bicycles, and approved small tour operator vehicles will be allowed on the road.

2️⃣ The section of the Big Oak Flat Road between the Groveland entrance and the Merced Grove will reopen on Saturday, June 10th. Be patient as there will delays along this route once it opens.

3️⃣ Today, Lower Pines and North Pines Campgrounds have reopened, but availability may be limited initially. Plan ahead and secure your spot accordingly.

4️⃣ Housekeeping Camp has also reopened today. If you're interested in this type of camping experience, act fast!

So, grab your gear and get ready to explore Yosemite National Park! Make sure to keep an eye out for any additional updates and details. It's time to reconnect with nature and create unforgettable memories while enjoying one of the most spectacular springtime seasons we've experience in a long time. While you are at it, share your amazing Yosemite moments with us! 📸

We love hosting and this guest review shows it all:

This incredible home is what Airbnb’s should be!

We’ve stayed in dozens of vacation rentals over the years, and I can honestly say this was the best appointed home we’ve ever stayed in.
The house had everything we could have needed and more. There were also several little touches that made us feel totally pampered, including cocoa and a few toys for the kiddos.

Come stay with us to rest, relax and reconnect at:

The river did not rise as much as forecast, so Yosemite Valley will be open Sunday from 7 am to 8 pm for day-use only with very limited services. The only concession services available in Yosemite Valley will be the Village Store, Village Grill, and Degnan’s Kitchen.

Yosemite Valley will then reopen fully on Monday at 7 am.

Rivers are running very high and are extremely dangerous. Do not go into or even approach rivers in Yosemite.

Each year, visitors to Yosemite leave behind approximately 24,000 camp fuel cylinders, objects that qualify as hazardous waste and prove costly to recycle. Yosemite Conservancy’s Zero Landfill Initiative, in a partnership with Subaru of America, Inc. and National Parks Conservation Association, is excited to announce a refillable fuel cylinder exchange program to combat this unique challenge. When you next camp in Yosemite, consider participating in this project. Help us reduce the amount of trash that ends up in local country landfills so that enjoying the park’s landscape need not result in the spoiling of another.

Magic!

Ansel Adams made this spectacular image of two of his favorite subjects—Half Dome and the moon—on a winter afternoon in 1960. He witnessed a brilliant gibbous moon rising to the left of the vertical rock face and, using a long lens and orange filter, carefully framed what would become one of his most popular late works.

Have you ever been to Yosemite National Park in the winter?

04/05/2023

As we approach the busy spring and summer seasons, we have some information to help you plan:

All campgrounds in Yosemite will be available by reservation only. First-come, first-served camping will not be available. Reservations will be available two months and/or two weeks in advance for Camp 4, Bridalveil Creek, Crane Flat, Tamarack Flat, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, and Porcupine Flat. Tuolumne Meadows Campground remains closed for rehabilitation. Get the details on when reservations will be available for each campground at go.nps.gov/camping.

The 40% of wilderness permits that were traditionally available one day in advance in person will be available seven days in advance at 7 am PDT on recreation.gov. Any unreserved permits will be available in person at wilderness centers on the start date of the trip. Few, if any, same-day permits will be available on any given day. (This is unchanged from 2022.) Get the details at go.nps.gov/wildpermits.

Glacier Point Road opening will be delayed as a result of the extremely heavy snowpack and because some road construction work must be completed prior to the road opening. Expect delays once Glacier Point Road opens. Tioga Road is also likely to open later than usual due to the heavy snowpack.

As previously announced, a reservation will not be required to visit Yosemite this year while we work on the Visitor Access Management Plan. Learn more about this plan and future opportunities to submit your input at go.nps.gov/vamp.

Expect extended traffic delays, extremely limited parking, busy trails, and no lodging or campground availability. Delays of an hour or more at entrance stations and up to two to three hours in Yosemite Valley are possible. Plan ahead and arrive early in the morning. Learn more at www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/traffic.htm.

This summer, rivers and creeks swollen by runoff from snowmelt will be dangerous. Powerful current, icy water, and river obstructions can trap or kill the unwary. Stay away from river and creek banks during high water conditions and avoid rock hopping. Stream polished rocks along the water's edge may be slippery when wet or dry.

04/05/2023

The Mariposa Grove reopens only to pedestrians tomorrow, April 5. Hikers will be able to walk on the Mariposa Grove Road, which is plowed to the Mariposa Grove Arrival Area, where many sequoias are visible. However, the Mariposa Grove beyond the end of the plowed road is very snowy. The road remains closed to all bicycles and vehicles.

The hike to the Mariposa Grove is four miles round trip with 500 feet of elevation change. The road is very icy; traction devices for your shoes will be useful.

Due to road damage, we are unable to service the vault toilets at the arrival area. Restrooms are available at the Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza (near South Entrance) and a vault toilet it available at the picnic area about 1.3 miles from the welcome plaza.
