Here at On Target Firearms Training we provide firearms safety training that is compliant with requi Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast.

Firearms safety is key anytime you handle a firearm and thats exactly what I offer to shooters of all experience levels. I offer NRA certified courses that will teach you proper ways to handle a firearm, different types of firearms, different types of ammunition, proper safety measures while both storing and using a firearm, etc. Both courses I currently offer can be used to apply for your LTC and

FID. Home Firearm Safety is a (approx) 4 hour classroom based safety course that covers all kinds of firearms. In this course you will do things like practice loading and unloading real revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns with non-firing practice ammo, identify different types of firearms and their ammunition, learn how to safely handle and store guns and ammunition, learn how to clean different types of firearms, find out how to apply for an LTC or FID in your city or town, etc. No range time is needed for this course so no live fire will be conducted. This course is best suited for people with previous firearms experience or people who would simply like to know how to handle a firearm in a safe manner should there ever be a need for it. Cost for this course is $65 and includes a take home student packet. Basic Pistol is a (approx) 8 hour course that covers ONLY pistols. In this course you will do things like shoot real revolvers and semi-automatic pistols at an actual live fire range, practice safe firearm handling, understand proper storage of guns and ammunition, practice proper Grip, Stance, Aim, and Marksmanship, learn how to take apart, clean, maintain, and reassemble your pistol, find out how to apply for an LTC or FID in your city or town, etc. Range time is required for this course and live fire is included in the cost. This course is best suited for anyone that would like experience with a pistol before going out and buying a pistol or getting their LTC. I suggest this course to those who have little to no experience with a firearm but plan to get your FID or LTC. Cost of this course is $130 and includes range time and a take home student packet. Additional courses not listed here are offered to include SABRE pepper spray/personal protection classes. Things I like to see...

- A fun learning enviornment that is relaxed but safe

- Students being interactive with the lesson plan and each other

- Willingness to learn

- Students encouraging each other and helping when they see someone struggle with the content of the lesson plan

Things I won't tolerate...

- Horseplay

- Disregard for anyones safety

- Repeated unsafe handling of firearms

- Disrespectful, degrading, discouraging, or purposly unmotivational remarks being made to anyone

- Failure to obey safety rules set fourth by myself

- NO LIVE ROUNDS WILL ENTER THE CLASSROOM!!! This is for everyone's safety

Both courses are open to shooters of all experience levels and both women and children are encouraged to participate. First time shooters are welcome as well, its never too late to start and get involved with your Second Amendment right. My motto is "Stay Alert, Stay Alive" and it not only applies to firearms safety but everyday situations as well. Always remember to treat every firearm as if its loaded and to keep it pointed in a safe direction at all times. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot and identify your target and whats behind your target before you fire. We are attending Wheeling for Warriors again this year as a gold donor. Along with a bunch of other local friends and business owners have been raising money for this great event since it started 5 years ago. We have become known as "The Fry Guys" since we had the idea to start making french fries a few years ago! It has now grown into so much more and every year we look forward to going back and meeting up with old friends and making new ones!

All the proceeds from our next two classes April 19th and May 18th are going to the event. Last year alone we donated over $2000 in cash and raffle prizes. We started a donation bucket for anyone at the event who joined us for french fries and at the end of the weekend we handed it to the great folks who run the event with no idea how much money was in it.

If you are interested in helping us out buy signing up for a seat in a class, with a donation of a raffle prize, a bag of potatos (we hand cut all the fries) or anything else please reach out to us.

Saturday April 19th and Sunday May 18th.
Class is at Rescue Towing, 253 West Street Hatfield and start time is 2pm. Cost is $100 per person.

It has been brought to our attention that Northampton PD has made a change to their process to apply for/renew a fi****ms license. It is now a requirement that you provide them with two typed letters of reference with signatures. As far as we are aware this is not a new requirement by the state it is just an added requirement by the city. (See link below)

This adds Northampton to the list of now 4 citys in our area that have added requirements to obtain licensing.

Springfield - requires a course that includes live fire.
Chicopee - requires live fire course & reference letters
(These requirements are not stated on their website but as far as we are aware they have not changed)
Northampton- two typed letters of reference
Holyoke - two typed letters of reference

For those of you in need or wondering about availability of an LTC class, the next one is this Thursday night in Hatfield. It's located at Rescue Towing, 253 West Street and start time is 6pm. Cost is $100 per person. This will get you the MA LTC on the current standards before everything changes and the new standards are put in place. Once the new course is required it'll be an all day course that requires live fire and a test to pass. Estimated cost for the new course, whenever we can even offer it, will be in the ballpark of $200 per person. Get in on this class before you're forced to wait to take the new one. We are holding 2 LTC classes in Oct.
Sunday the 6th at 1pm
Thursday the 10th at 6pm
Classes are going to be held in Hatfield and a limited number of seats are available.
Cost is $100 person.
These are the last public classes we will be holding before the new gun laws are set to go into effect on OCT 23rd.
Also we will have copies of the petition for people to sign to try and slow the process of the law changes and be brought to a ballet question in 2026.

Quite often we questions about basic hunter safety courses. those courses are run by the state.

There are very few classes in the Hampshire county area every year. But there is another option!
According to mass.gov you can qualify for a Hunting license by taking any other states safety course. We have found that Texas has online courses that only take a few hours and about $40.

We have all heard stories of a stranger knocking on someone's door asking for help or to use a phone and then trying to attack or rob the person! Here is an inexpensive idea to help protect your home and family from these types of invasions.

We borrowed this idea from a friend and thought it was worth sharing.

Mount a command strip hook near your entry doors, windows or anywhere easily accessible hang a lanyard flashlight and a pepper spray canister on the hook. Easily accessible protection can be mounted at any height to keep out of children's reach.

•Command strip hooks are about $10 per 16 pack.
•Pocket size pepper sprays $10-$15 available at your local gun shop and can be purchased by anyone 18+ years old
• flashlights could be one of the many you have laying around the house or a new one, make sure its reliable and you have spare batteries.

For under $100 you can add this set up to multiple entry points in your home and be better prepared for the crazy world outside your front door.
