The Mississippi Movie Monday event series was created in partnership with the Mississippi Film Office, Mississippi Film Society, Flowood Chamber, and Visit Flowood to showcase special screenings at Flowood's Legacy Theaters Parkway!
New free screening alert! Join us on Monday night, February 17, at 7 pm at the Legacy Theaters Flowood for a free preview screening of MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE followed by a recorded conversation with writer/director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes. Please note that tickets are first-come, first-served and are limited to 2 per order. This is rated R for language and mature themes. Link to tickets below.
My Dead Friend Zoe is a dark comedy drama that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who is at odds with her family thanks to the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her dead best friend from the Army. Despite the persistence of her VA group counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother and the levity of an unexpected love interest, Merit's cozy-dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo insulated from the world. That is until Merit's estranged grandfather (Ed Harris)—holed up at the family's ancestral lake house—begins to lose his way and is in need of the one thing he refuses... help. At its core, this is about a complicated friendship, a divided family, and the complex ways in which we process grief.
The film is written and directed by Army veteran Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, who has an amazing story of becoming a filmmaker and bringing this film to life. We will hear from Kyle in a pre-recorded conversation about the film with Film Society Executive Director Ryan Parker, which will play immediately after the screening.
This screening is presented by The Mississippi Film Society, in partnership with Briarcliff Entertainment, Mississippi Film Office and Flowood Chamber
