Renourishment is a fascinating process! Thanks to the Folly Beach Turtle Watch Program for their care and protection of our sea turtle nests!!

Our sea turtle season normally begins on May 1. However, our 2024 sea turtle season will begin April 15th. Why? Because our entire beach, from the County Park to Summer Place, will be renourished this season. In fact, the renourishment has already begun and the County Park renourishment will be completed soon. The likelhood that we will have an early nester before May 1st is low but greater than zero. Our earliest nest on record was on April 29, 2002. To ensure that any early nest is discovered and managed appropriately, the USACE and SCDNR require we begin morning surveys of our entire beach effective April 15th. Here is the status of the renourishment as of today. It’s your local herb pusher and I am trying to make sure you gateway into more exotic herbs by enjoying the free community herb garden’s offerings!
Stop by my yard at 509 West Ashley on Folly - adjacent to the public walkover - grab the scissors hanging on the sign and start snipping! We have rosemary which is amazing for beef or veggie Kabob grills, loads of mint for mojitos or Agua freschas or my simple favorite - watermelon, mint and feta salad! - cilantro, lavender, oregano and sweet basil for your insalata caprese, eggs, so many good things.
This past week was amazing - we had some super Folly folks come out and cut the basil all the way down and make loads of pesto, share it and freeze it for the winter!
But with the rain and the sun and our organic soil the sweet basil and Thai basil and everything else is ready to cut again!
Will you please be our guest and take herbs this weekend! The garden is yours- our gift to all of Folly residents and guests and those from neighboring towns and everyone!!!
